Why is there no contrast on the Casioak?

I’d love to own a Casioak, but they all seem to be grey on grey, red on red or black on black. I like watches that have a lot of contrast to them and are easily legible. The only one I’ve seen that’s any good is the tri-colour, but they’re currently marked up be 50% on eBay over retail:

50% over retail just seems crazy to me. To all the Casioak owners, are they are hard to read as they look?

I have a blue one with a gray bezel, so there's a little bit of contrast on it.

·

The GA-b2100-1aer is okay

But you’re right they don’t go in for a lot of contrast.

Sorry I am not a Casioak owner, and its for the very reason you state that has stopped me buying one.  I don't mind all black, blue etc but at least give me some contrasting hands ! I am a big Casio fan but they miss some obvious things at times, like the Duro being too big etc. I would love an hour with the Casio guys to nag them. Hope they visit WatchCrunch !

Update: After seeing some of the later posts it seems there are a fair few with some contrast. I guess the the ones I have seen are mono colour, I must look harder !

Going to mod it to a casioak. Doing steel case and rubber strap

I have the grey one and I'm tempted to swap it out for this very reason. I can barely read it!

Hello,

When you buy your mod be aware of the extra width that it will add.

I bought mine last year and it made the watch unwearable for me.

·

I have the black on black and it is very difficult to read. I wouldn't recommend it for this reason alone.

Thanks for the heads up! I have an 8 in wrist and have watch cases I wear up to 47mm. Would it fit my wrist?

Thanks!

I think it will fit you, just keep in mind it will look bigger than now.

Mine is ok

This one is mostly legible, but not as legible as it could Be.

I think the newer ones have some color to help:

The Casioak is a classic case of form over function. I have a GA-B2100-A1 and it's workable, but the lack of contrasting indexes is annoying.

·

They are difficult to read.

·

I agree with you, but there are these two interesting models with good legibility. The black one is in my list. #casio #gshock

It’s the face vs the hands I’m talking about.

How about the Lovers Collection:

Spooky - posted on this just yesterday! I bought a different CasiOak so I could read the face!

Have you ever (re)bought the same watch in a different colourway? | WatchCrunch

I would really struggle to read that.

·

Couldn’t agree more…At certain angles, it’s impossible to read the digital display. At night, need to press the back lit to read time. The lume doesn’t last long on the analogue hands. But I still love it😂

The hands have huge counterweights on them that obscure the hour hand at times. Most have the negative display which is the trend in G-shock right now. The best way is the modding route with Alli dials, hands and cases. But really Casio has cheaper options that are almost as tough with 10 year batteries and good water resistance.

·

SKXmod sell dial faces, hands, and chapter rings (with the indices) for the casioak, so you can have a unique watch with all the contrast you want. For some parts, I think you can even give a colour reference and they'll make a one-off for you.

Have you seen the IFLwatches versions?

·

The "skeleton" version seems to have sufficient contrast to be easily legible. Even the grey version isn't terrible.

Here's my metal case blue Casioak

The contrast and readability is better than the black on black IMHO

I wouldn’t say either of those have particularly good legibility. I’m talking about something like this:

Image

Maybe it's not contrast the word, you are looking for a Black and white dial. For this particular G-Shock model they haven't done it yet.

·

No contrast MIGHT make it eligible to be worn by members of the military.

I‘m ex-military. The issued/recommended watches are highly visible and legible. 😊

They’re usually field watch style, might have changed in the years I’ve been out though.

·

The most legible is gray IMO precisely because of the positive digital display. Some mods like the ones @KionVibjerg mentioned from IFL Watches are the most effective:

Image

You can easily do this yourself if you buy a new marker ring on AliExpress and just swap it out. They even sell fully lumed marker rings for Casioaks. If you're more adventurous you can replace the dial and hands as well.

I'm not into the case mods myself, I like the standard resin cases and they are nice and light.

But you’re right they don’t go in for a lot of contrast.

I went with this one too mainly because of the positive display and the grey markers
