One detail you could do without

Even if you like your watch and have every intention of keeping it, what is a detail about it that you could do without?

The signed crown is the last thing I look for in a watch. Maybe I don't mind it on a dress watch for the aesthetics but I don't really care if it is present on a watch or not. I'm in no way going to be staring at the signed crown at any point in time when I look at the watch to see the time. I rather have a nicely finished crown which is easy to operate.

Display case back, not that I dislike them, but I like them least out of the features my favourite watches have.

and they add like 2mm to the thickness too... :(((((

·

The thing is 99.9% of ppl buying these watches never will have any use for He release in any shape or form at any rate

·

Definitely the He valve. I have many watches with this and it is totally unnecessary.

·

Due to my age I don't need a date on a watch ,also you have to keep resetting it when you rotate your watches

·

clasp and screws on bracelets. I don't care about it as long the bracelet itself is wearable and sizeable. I'm not really that picky when it comes to bracelets. Also signed crown is kinda cool, but in general a big whatever.

Signed crown as others wrote - but also signed clasp.

I would rather that manufacturers ship bland unbranded clasps, but for all of them to have tool-less micro-adjusting and that (specially now in 2023) all of them are milled.

Faux rivets.

I don't like the idea of quick release springbars. The springbar should never have anything involved in it that makes it quick to release.

I'm exactly the opposite: I will not buy any leather strap that does not have quick release spring bars. I've had those almost tearful experiences trying to remove standard straps from non-drilled lugs, inevitably scratching up the lugs, losing spring bars, gouging chunks out of the strap, etc. So for me the risk of strap disengagement (hasn't happened so far) is massively outweighed by how annoying and soul-sapping I find it trying to change standard straps on undrilled lugs...

Dates, really couldn't care less about the crown being signed ( yet most YouTubers mark down for this as if we are supposed to give a toss), & excessive water resistance leading to thicker watches.

·

I’ve never had a watch that wouldn’t be better without the date. Except the ones that didn’t come with a date. I will make a begrudging exception for day/dates as well but I don’t generally buy those anyway.

I like a date but not the day. I always know the day of the week. I'm typing this on a Friday and I didn't have to look at my watch.

I used to worry about this too, but then I read a post by some guy about 10 frugal fixes, or something like that. Now, just by using ordinary household materials, I'm confident I can handle any watch problem.

·

Dial text.. I might be slightly biased because I've got half a chapter written on my Pelagos.

But truly, I don't need more than the Manufacturer, maybe the model name, and the WR depth.

3 lines, max..

·

Aluminium bezels. Way too dingable for my liking. I only do ceramic.

·

Diver's extensions.

I work a three shift rotation. There are many times when I cannot remember what day of the week it is. Sometimes I can’t even remember if I’m supposed to be getting ready for work or getting ready for bed. LOL

Thank you for your hard work. We can't have awesome town or cities without everyone participating. You're a guy who does need the day/date complication.

I worked a three shift rotation for years (Panama schedule). Miss it terribly, but not a date on a watch! ;)

I think a Panama schedule is completely different than what I have.

Two weeks of midnights 11pm to 7am.

Two weeks of afternoons 3pm to 11pm.

Two weeks of days 7am to 3pm.

Rinse and repeat ad infinitum. After a few years of this, your body doesn’t know when to sleep.

Understood, yeah Panama is different. Three on two off, three off and two on. Twelve hour shifts (6am to 6pm) and about 100 more days off per year than working a standard five day week. Miss it.
