Got the call...not once, but twice.
What a strange day it was.
Yesterday, I was going about my business. I got a text from my local AD mid-afternoon. "Hey I have an Explorer for you," it said. I was thrilled! After only 6 months on the list and with no prior purchase history at this dealer, here was the opportunity to own my grail watch.
So, I stop what I was doing and rush over to the store which is only 15 minutes from my house. Christmas had come early for this middle-aged man.
Then...as I am leaving the dealer with the Explorer on my wrist, my phone rings. I look at the screen and there is the name of the other AD where I had expressed interest. I answer.
"Hey...I have an Explorer for you!"
I felt so strange. Almost like I had been caught cheating. I expressed my regret and told him I was just leaving an AD with the watch on my wrist. I was literally just about to text to let him know I was no longer in the market.
Is it strange that I felt bad about it?
But...what does it matter, anyway? I got the watch I've wanted for so long after a relatively short wait, and at Christmas to boot!

Yes, you should spend a lot of time wondering if you were deferential enough in your treatment of a Rolex AD. In fact, you should spend the same amount of time they spend worrying about the feelings of their prospective customers. I guess that wouldn't be 'a lot', tho. /s
Srsly...Enjoy your beautiful watch knowing that the 2nd AD sold his Explorer by simply making one more phone call.

Congrats! I'd let the 2nd AD know they were a little late notifying you but that you will keep them in mind for your next watch purchase. Then go and watch the Seinfeld episode where he changes barbers.

I was wondering the same. The 2nd AD is about 40 minutes from my house. Both watches must have been on the same truck.

I honestly don't know what I would have done if I was in that same situation. Wouldn't judge you either way.
Congratulations on a beautiful watch! The Explorer is my personal favorite Rolex! I would have entertained flipping the second Explorer as @GoingTopShelf suggested. It's Christmas and if you want a new Explorer.... I digress. Enjoy that perfect piece & Merry Christmas!

weird isn’t it? A title of “I got the call” should be a bit confusing, but we all know the meaning. And 2 calls seems crazy.
All your local dealers get a shipment around the same time apparently.

you should feel no guilt in having two AD’s calling you to pick them up. The second AD will have no issue finding a new buyer. Enjoy the watch!

Lots of comments about flipping the second one but it sells for around retail plus tax on the gray market now. A separate topic for sure, but the second offer is more interesting from an availability standpoint. Secondary prices are falling and it seems there's a lot of people getting watches and/or not waiting as long these days. Good news for collectors.
This is the more interesting angle to me. I think things will look better for collectors in 2023.
I simply do NOT get the hype for this watch. It is SO plain and boring yet commands a ridiculous premium because it has a crown on it. It's stolen valor for a 3 handed, time only watch. I just don't get it.

Congratulations!!!. I'm happy that you got off the list 2x at ADs with no purchase history and hope this means that more watches are coming for the rest of us. Still, with 3+ years on the list at an AD where I have bought 2 other watches, I won't get my hopes up too much. Maybe I should look to move to your neck of the woods (I already love the Eagles).

There are an increasing number of these stories popping up. One thing its got me thinking, you know how they say there are ten people on the list waiting for every one sports rolex, how many of them are the same ten people on lists at ten ADs?

this is exactly the point why it is my prefered watch. So simple, so minimalist...but I get it that not everybody likes that/it
