The ugliest watch?

Typically when I look to purchase a watch, I usually look for ones that I like. However, sometimes I happen to come across a watch that is not so pleasant.

There are brands that make a lot of watches that I find ugly, such as Invicta and Bulova. They have great looking models in the lineup, but most of their stuff is just really unattractive to me.

This might lead one to think that the watch that I find to look the worst from what I have seen might be from one of these companies, but nope. In fact, the watch that I find to look the worst is from a company whose watches I mostly like a whole lot: Hamilton.

I really like their Khaki Field series and the Murph looks great as well. As it is, I have ordered a Khaki Field Mechanical, which I will probably get next week, in addition to my existing quartz one.

However, they have a specific model that I find to look absolutely horrible: The Khaki King. This thing is an abomination to my eyes. The date cutout is way too big, doesn't blend in with the watch at all, is shaped and positioned horribly and worst of all, the way that it cuts the 11 and 1 numerals is just no.

Now that I have discussed mine, what is your pick for the ugliest watch?

Honestly I don’t mind the Khaki King and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Having said that though, this piece from Rorios is one I think is really ugly.

It looks like even the watch isn’t happy about how it looks. I’m sure many people like it but I think it looks terrible. Even the lugs look bad.

Skeletonized watches in general tend to look ugly to my eye. Even open heart watches rub me the wrong way. In general beauty is symmetrical and harmonious. Simple is generally going to be more pleasant to the eye than complex.

I don't think the lugs are bad in isolation, but they don't really suit the dial and I do agree on that watch being rather unattractive as a whole.

I don't actually find it that ugly, but WTF?

So the 3 and 9 numerals are tilted 90 degrees compared to usual watches and the case shape is oval. Why?

Those numerals in particular look like they would make this one a nightmare to read. That 9 looks like a 6. The 3 and 9 being tilted in different directions does not help with this. Also why is the other text directed differently from the 3 and 9?

Guess they are trying to be unique, but really feels like bad design to me when telling the time with a watch becomes confusing.

I think the Khaki King is just fine. If you want to talk about ugly Hamiltons queue up the whole Ventura line. I know, I know, Elvis, iconic, yada, yada…

I’m sorry, but a triangular case is just UGLY.

Eh, I quite like how the Ventura watches look. Seems our preferences are different.

I think Christopher Ward makes some nice looking watches, but am not a fan of the Bel Canto

The Rolex Sky-Dweller and Yacht-Master II are also fairly ugly...

I’m not a fan of square or rectangular cases either, so maybe it’s just me. Two or three little rods pivoting around a fixed point screams “circle” in my book.

I actually agree on this one. I mean I’d own one if I could. A Mechanical hourly chime at this price point is amazing, but it’s definitely not the most aesthetically pleasing look.

Invicta seems to be best at promoting ugly, on a regular basis.

For me it's beyond the aesthetics, which I agree on. But how do you tell the time? Even it's fans admit it's not easy. A watch should function as a watch <shrug>.

I dislike most skeleton watches, beautiful as they are, I like a watch that’s easy to read and none of those are, I don’t care if it’s an AP, some Richard Mille $25m thing, if I can’t tell the time at a glance without looking though ”art” it’s useless to me. 🤘😮🤣

It looks like a smiling cyclops, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Off the top of my head, Ploprof. Also the (look up how to spell Constantyn or whatever later) Joker. Actually the former. It is the scariest watch on earth. It disturbs my very soul.

Don’t worry, you can get something similar for £20 on Amazon 🤣 Equally scary.

I'm a Rolex fan and I don't like it ,too blingy

Fake Skeleton watches are really ugly in my opinion and a bit shameless...Ingersoll to name one brand

·

Anything by Richard Mille, Hublot, or Invicta (except their clomages).

·

I see tons of coverage of the Jacob and Co Bugatti watch on YouTube and yet it is not a tasteful watch.

Vintage watches. Especially those with patina 🤮

·

Thoroughly agree on the beauty of vintage watches with absolutely no damage, but it comes with steep prices. At those ranges, it is much more sensible to look into modern watches usually, imo

·

I'll stand with you.  SO GARISH.  Ick, ick, ick.

·

That is just dreamy.  And no, it is not a rip-off.  Although Cartier was first in the square watch, others followed suit pretty quickly, eg VC and AP in the 20's/30's.  No one has IP rights over geometry.

I have a vintage Louis, and I'd still love to have your grandparents' watch.  It's priceless and much more special than anything modern. Wear it in good health!

I think it is meant to be worn over the wetsuit. Meaning a fraction of a percentage of owners are doing it right.

That makes sense.  Although even with a wetsuit, I bet my wrist is too small.  I'll leave it to the people who actually go under the water, in any case, and just admire it now and then in cyberspace.
