Fashion police needed

So I have to go to a wedding in a few months and this got me to thinking…I don’t own a traditional “dress watch” mainly because the leather straps cause me to break out. So I turn this over to the WC community: is wearing a watch with a nato strap a no no with a suit? What about a bracelet? Is this even a thing anymore since I see people wearing Apple Watches with suits.

i think nato is innapropriate on suit (unless you re mr bond). bracelet is more proper with a suit. but that is just my opinion

For an actual wedding I’d prob try a bracelet or leather. You can certainly wear a nato with suit, but I wouldn‘t for wedding or ceremony.

·

Wedding huh!!

Colareb makes great vegan "leather" straps.

Textile is okay, but the goofy bric-a-brac metal hardware on a true NATO is too informal. Sadly, I have no idea where to obtain a silk grosgrain band/strap with a self fabric keeper.

Bracelets are fine. Rubber with a grain finish may also be an option. I'm not sure how they look in person. "Vegan" bands with a leather look exist, but again I have no firsthand experience with them.

No  watch or a pocket watch may be the best option.

Thanks!

A perlon, MN,, NATO, or something similar is more than good enough if it colour matches/coordinates with the suit.

Lots of companies make fabric straps that cost between $10-50 if you do some searching. Off the top of my head, Crown & Buckle, and Vario are good choices.

interestingly, in more traditional circles a bracelet is likely more of a faux pas than a subtle NATO. Bracelets are entirely a "sports" thing, whereas a fabric or leather watch strap is more "formal".

To further your point, are divers considered a faux pas as well?

Bracelet or leather.  NATOs are too casual.

More than a dress/everyday/sports watch, but realistically most people don't care.

I only point out that a bracelet is not really a "dress" option because it's a common misconception.

Wear whatever you want.

Are you OK with sailcloth? You could pickup a nice sailcloth strap to replace the leather strap.

Here is my Fifty Fathoms on black sailcloth (underside is a soft rubber)...

I think this works for formal.

·

Wear a black Nato as they hide well. Lighting is usually bad at weddings so no one will notice unless you have the ring.

·

I am not sure I would spend extra money on anything for just 1 day. Do you own a nice pocket watch?

Looks great! I’ll look into sailcloth for sure!

You can purchase rubber backed leather straps if you want leather but not have leather against your skin. Just something else to consider, assuming you don’t have issues with rubber.

No issues with rubber. Defi something to look into. Thanks!

"I was recently at a wedding and one of the guests wore a nato, it was all anyone could talk about.  The jeers and whispers were beyond distracting"...said no one ever.  Wear what you want, no one else really cares..

Guy shows up to a wedding and upstages the bride with a watch like that!?!? Ruptured numptuous soon to follow....

·

Somebody else's wedding is not about me, so I purposely wear something understated, which includes the watch. The more formal the event, the more I am inclined to go bare-wristed.

·

I wear my dive watches with a suit no issue. Listen if bond can wear his omega you can wear anything 😂

·

Brother - metal bracelet is 👍🏼 never understood why ppl are so against them. But make sure it’s thin to fit under the cuff.

haha and definitely no Apple watch please

·

I wore my Phylida inspired Speedy Moon Watch for my niece's wedding just 3 weeks ago in Montreal and ROCKED IT HARD!!! The groom wore his Omega Professional Speedy and that's why I rocked the homage. And let me tell you...The groom's mind was BLOWN away LOL! Hit that watch up with an oyster bracelet or any stainless steel bracelet you're comfortable with and you're STRAIGHT Brotha! I'm the tallest dude on the right of this picture 😎 Enjoy that day my man 👊🏽

Now all depends what part of New York  you from if you not far from Canal St.  You can find simple Chinese dress watch or buy a George dress watch in Walmart all for the one time event.

Your reference to a Walmart George might be the first in WC history 😂😂😂

·

I wore a DOXA to mine (possibly on an isofrane).

Do what you want.  Nobody will care.

If you want to use this opportunity to buy a watch, nobody here should judge you.  Go forth and watch shop!

·

Simple 3 hand watch with leather strap would be great.

That would be interesting to meet someone here who's a big fan of George watches and that has over 20 or more just them watches alone. That would be crazy insane!

·

You could also try canvas straps. But bracelet will be perfect as well. Honestly anything but a smart watch is good lol

·

Nato is fine with suit.

Bracelet is also great.

Leather is not so great in the summer
