For many this is the field watch of all field watches. With many different options in movements, dials and finnishes for a decent price, this is another of the "first automatic" recommedations. Historic brand with a tradition of making military-/field watches.
To plain? Or plain legendary?
Hot take: it's just one variant of a generic watch type, the type 'field watch' is relevant, the specific model isn't.
As Hamilton has been supplying the armed forces since WW1 and WW2 with field watches this has to be a legend
Personally, I would use the word iconic to describe it.ย
A solid and classic choice for a field watch, although there are many, many other field watches to choose from.
THE field watch that comes to mind when anyone mentions field watches. Legend

Well, no need for me to add anything. This is exactly correct. It is a model of a fairly standard type, and it is nice enough but utterly interchangeable with several other brands' models. Classic type.

I never felt attracted to Hamilton and their Khaki. Maybe it's because I already own watches that fills in the "Field Watch" slot, or more likely because like a lot of other Swatch group watches I find them boring and uninteresting.ย

Truetrue, but isn't it one of the first once that come to mind?ย
My take on this is, it was one of the first to make a field watch. They were one of the original companies tapped to make these watches for the military. There was no field watch until the military asked for them. They, along with a few other US companies, made them. Hamilton and Bulova were the only 2 companies that made those watches and continue today. No one says, "oh, you want a field watch, then you want Bulova." The fit and finish are second to none. They took the design and pretty much made it their own. Yes, you have choices today. But you also have choices for a submariner dive watch. But who do you think of when you mention the type.

E - gateway.ย
If you want a modern field, or something that at least gets you into the right area and a brand that is good value for money, you canโt really go wrong with a Khaki.
Hamilton have some history when it comes to military watches, so itโs not a leftfield choice. Getting one will spark one of two reactions - youโll go deep into militaria and the typical field watch style, or youโll go off into more tool/diver styles.ย

Thank you very much. Still don't know how to vote. Will vote overrated.ย
Personally live the look and feel of khaki mechanical and own a khaki King. So, I think it is good, but not THE Field watch!ย
I think it would be considered a opinion and not a fact if half the people disagree about it?
Truetrue, but isn't it one of the first once that come to mind?ย
I'm sort of ignorant of the history, so no. I have the whole problem of thinking of Swiss Hamilton as a totally different thing than American Hamilton to boot. But I generally forget that Hamilton makes or made field watches.ย
Anyway, if the branding were omitted, would anyone seriously be able to distinguish this from the analogues?
Hamilton are a very popular maker of field watches and one of the pioneers in the field (pun intended). That's my opinion. But there are proof of both history and salesnumbers.
And what have any of us ever done other than just exist ๐คย
i have few expensive watches and to my surprise when I saw #hamilton Khaki King, it was love at first sight. I wear it as often as possible.ย
No worries ๐ I'm sorry for your loss ๐
I want to love the Hamilton Khaki Field watch. ย The HKF was among the first automatics I bought when I began paying attention to mechanical movements. ย I own only 1 Hamilton - It is the Hamilton Field Titanium Auto - the H70575733. ย Unfortunately, I'm not really bonding with this watch. ย I got it used and I got a good deal on it, but I'm thinking I'm thinking of flipping it. ย Not really liking the black bezel and black dial. ย I think I also prefer the more traditional dial that has a more color.
It seems wrong to not bond with an American Classic - how can I not love Hamilton, but if I'm going to be honest and like what I like then I think I'm going Timex if I flip the Hamilton. ย I'm going to give myself another month to form an attachment and if not...adios

I really love the look of blacked out watch with colorful straps!! Bright red or yellow for example? Looks awesome ๐ช You could give it a go? I like the look for the one you got ๐
Quintessential field watch in a competitive field. It has style and history.

Changed my Hamilton strap last night and I think this is moving in the right direction. ย I'm on the lookout for a yellow or red strap ๐

Looks killer ๐ฅ The challenge is to find colorful straps with black hardware. CWC got some: https://www.cwcwatch.com/collections/cwc-nato-watch-straps
I appreciate the suggestion and I'm going to experiment with lighter straps or more colorful straps. ย Might try this
or thisย
