Has anyone gone to a Wind Up Watch Fair event? If so, was it worth the trip and how was the experience? I’d like to go to the one coming up in Chicago...
Watches are like an anxiety medication for me. Every time I look down at my wrist, it makes me forget about the stresses of life. I get that feeling wearing a $100 G-Shock, or a $5,000+ Rolex. If watches make you happy, I say spend what you are comfortable spending and enjoy the hobby.
You can be a watch enthusiast and not own many watches. It’s all about enjoying the hobby, and learning as you go. No matter how much you know, there’s always more to learn.
Anything from Monta. Watch enthusiasts know about the brand, but that’s about it. There’s videos online praising the them, but not very many. When I had the opportunity to try one on, it was an instant purchase. I would have easily spent $500-$1000 more on the Oceanking.
For me, homage watches need to have enough of their own personality or be in a certain price bracket where I think it’s worth it. I love Tudor, but thats part of the reason I haven’t purchased a BB58 yet. I’ve gone to the AD to try them on, but for some reason I can’t pull the trigger. When I try it on, I just think about how I’d rather have the Rolex. Still love the way they look though.

Since you said regardless of budget, I’d say a Patek Philippe Nautilus. Love the watch and the work Patek puts into their watches, but way out of my current budget.
