Studio Underd0g

Any thoughts on Studio Underd0g? I love the fun and unique designs but wonder how often i would wear it. Does anyone have one? Thoughts?

It’s a unique and creative watch. A definite conversation starter. It’s just not my style as I hate drawing attention to myself.

·

Personally I'm not a huge fan of pink/red and green.

·

Personally I don’t get it. It’s lopsided and too bright. “Here he comes in his neon watch again.”

It’s got a seagull movement. I’d take a 1963 instead and keep the change.

I like it! I got to meet the founder, Richard Benc at Windup Watch Fair. Got the hookup and did an early pre-order of the Watermelon Gen 2 before they accept orders on May 23rd.

But seriously, I think they are for the same buyers of the Mr. Jones watches...

·

You can ask the man himself, Richard, he's @studiounderdog on here.

I'm really, really tempted by a Mint Choc Chip when the next batch drops on the 23rd, but I really think the 38mm case size is too small for my tastes. If they make a 40 or a 41, i'm in.

·

Love it…makes me smile each time I see it 🤙❤️🤙

·

Love what Richard's doing @Studio.Underd0g

·

Love it!

It is just good fun.

·

I think they are super fun. The only reason I haven’t bought one is I’m pretty strict, one-in-one out policy for my watch box and don’t think I will wear it enough to justify moving something else on.

·

It's a refreshing line, like the colors proposed and would probably get one down the road if a larger version would be available > 41 mm.

hahaha, you mean people who don't take all this watch stuff too seriously?

Well, the goofy panda keeps the quirky design but the black/white color scheme makes it much more discrete. The desert sky (blue/cream) is somewhere in between.

·

I'm delighted to say that I'm waiting for the next round of sales to being on the 23rd of May. Can't wait to get my Desert Sky! @Studio.Underd0g

·

I personally like them. Of course you should have to see them not as a dress watch or fine horology. But I think every collection should have the funny one. And this one is really a good example. Good product and fair price.

I am hoping that in the next round I can buy the Watermel0n 😁

·

I like them, I think they've differentiated themselves from the rest of the microbrand scene enough to stand out. They've certainly come a long way since the first post Rich made on r/watches!

I'm a huge fan of MJM too! I recently popped into their new store in London and happened to bump into Crispin (the founder) which was a wonderful surprise!

Awesome! Two very cool watch brands. MJW is quite funky and design oriented, while you guys are fun and playful. Both super cool. I just wish I wasn't working in a boring, conservative industry. Though, maybe I can shake things up with a mint chocolate chip and a lazy Sunday afternoon!

·

Hit & Miss - Some colours I love, Desert Sky and Mint Choc Chip especially however the brighter ones, Watermelon and Aubergine are too bright for me but I can't fault the core design even on them haha, I love the little details, 3 colours on the small seconds, the watermelon pips etc

·

I got to try one of these on at a recent meet up. I would have assumed, just looking at it, that it wouldn’t really fit me well. Trying it on proved me otherwise. The texture and color of the dial is fantastic in person.

·

Never owned one, but I think they look neat 🥰

·

I liked them from the photos and video reviews but when I saw them in person at the Windup Watch Fair I fell in love. Definitely on my wish list and think it's the perfect size.

I have a 1963 and love it!

No problemo. I did recently introduce a mesh strap that will be made available to customers during the order window on the 23rd.

Image

That’s great! Will the leather strap be available as an add-on?

·

Thank you all for the responses! I love fun watches and have been eyeing these pieces for a long time. I have a reminder set on my phone for the 23rd. I’m going to pick up at least one. Question is, which one(s) to get? I seem to always gravitate to more conventional colors like the Desert Sky and Mint Ch0c Chip… but man that Watermel0n is an eye catcher. Thanks for the fun take on watches, @Studio.Underd0g !

Think it really depends on which model you get bc some of them are actually quite subtle and under the radar while still being fun . . . I have the mint chip and find it very understated.

·

I think every collector needs at least one watch in the fun and less $$$ category imo and this fits the bill.

·

I love them. I wish they had a retailer in the states, so this cheap bastard could avoid import taxes/duties.

Oh, no. Not those. I get what you mean. To each their own, but IMO they're horrid. That being said, I like these. I know it's a seagull movement, but a handsome one.

My post was related to one of my colleagues who was wearing a Mr Jones watch. He told me he had another one as well. I said "Have you heard of the Watermelon watch by Studio Underdog?" He said "No". So I showed him the picture and he was instantly smitten and planned to attempt to purchase one.

Thus, my conclusion: customer of Mr Jones = customer of Studio Underdog.

The two firms should share each other's customer list as there is probably a lot of potential for cross-selling between those two brands.

BTW - my colleague was surprised I knew about the Mr Jones watches.

Lol. I thought that was shade against Mr Jones. Some people love them. I think they look like something you'd find at a flea market, but to each their own. "Not for me but perhaps for thee."
