Dateless is my preference, especially on mechanical watches (one less thing to set). On quartz pieces as long as the date is nicely integrated and positioned then I can take it or leave it.
I have a Pepsi duro. It's okay for the money but large. I kind of feel like unless you are in love with either the duro or invicta, you should probably save up for a really nice microbrand diver (just so so many options for below $500) or if you want a big name brand then you can find a nice enough Seiko, citizen, or orient for the same. If you don't mind homages then AliExpress works and you can find an outstanding diver (spec wise) for the money from San Martin or a few other reputable Chinese homage brands.

Had a Barton one. Was stiff and uncomfortable. Also it looked awful after just a few wears. No experience with other brands but it put me off sailcloth.
