Beautiful movments

Hey guys, I'm a huge fan of watch movements. I think they're awesome and gorgeous, like the JLC Duometre, ALS 1815 and Omega's 3861 movement. I love hand-wound chronos and watches with cool features that show off the movement.

I'm on the hunt for my next watch, but I'm not sure what else is out there. The Omega Speedy Pro is too similar to one of my watches, and the JLC and ALS are way too pricey for me. What other watches should I check out, both old and new?

I’m marching along beside you! 😃

Nomos have lovely movements in a different style. I’ve had a good look and they are sweet.

·

I have a pin-up in my locker. It’s not some blonde bombshell. It’s a macro of an ALS movement.

·

Just so we’re clear, my first thought was not that the top pic was a Seagull chrono.

I checked your WRUW contributions. Nice collection for sure. In your shoes I'd consider something besides a chrono. What else have you considered besides a Speedy?

Mainly manually wound watches like GO Panoreserve or ALS Lange 1 if I can stretch my budget.

Here are a few in different prices ranges since I'm not sure your budget aside from including a Lange 1- VC Historiques Cornes de Vache, Moser Venturer, Blancpain Villeret Ultraplate

Some of the GS hand winds are pretty darn nice

Or a steel cased Chopard LUC

Nomos is a back up third.

None of my watches movements can compare to those, this is the best I have, back of my SLGH009

Breitling B09s.

Kudoke

Cheap movement to admire? Maybe try a Sugess?

El primero?

Something with the Zenith 420 maybe?

They're available for not a lot of money so you'll be able to keep some cash aside in case the new UG's will be worth buying!

😉

Lange wins this hands down. Love being at the boutique admiring the movements

·

Hand wound, Tourby.

Breguet Tradition… You can see the movement from both sides and they‘re gorgeous!

·

It depends on your budget quite frankly. Generally manual wind watches will have prettier movements because of the lack of a rotor that hides everything. A micro rotor movement can be very nice such as the MR01 if you’re on a budget. Or the LUC chopard if you have cash to burn. The octo finissimo has an incredible looking movement but isn’t the most subtle watch. Garrick make a lovely bespoke movement too

I just pre-ordered mine as well. Gorgeous watch.

Not sure what your price range is...

At the $10k mark, Tortsi Laine makes some beautiful watches...

Image

At around the $5K mark, Ophion makes a gorgeous watch...

For under $1k, Dumoreau did a great job with the DM02...

There are so many more to choose from...

If you want to really spend some money, there is no better price to value than Montblanc's Minerva series...

Longines 12.68Z, one of the most beautiful manual movements ever made 🫡

·

I am absolutely in a minority here, but I like more industrial looking movements more than the jewellery/artistic type movements. For example, I LOVE the yema micro rotor movement. The dark metals, the simplicity and the cool little rotor.

Grand Seiko mechanical spring drive watches are pretty
