My son, on a trip with some friends, purchased a watch and that in turn sparked his interest with all things horological. I hadn't worn a watch in decades, but his budding enthusiasm with watches was infectious and soon found myself diving headlong into the world of wrist worn timepieces and am back to wearing a watch daily. I was window shopping on the web, looking up different brands and it occurred to me that it would be fun to build a collection of watches from as many countries as possible. Now the watches would not have to be completely (or at all) built in said country, but the brand would need to be a brand of that nation. So far I've got Japan, USA, China and Switzerland represented in my small herd of watches and look forward to adding more as this hobby (obsession?) continues. So what countries do you have a watch from and from which are you eyeballing the next purchase?

I have others but they are not worth mentioning. They are a mishmash of parts and who knows where they are really from. I.e.: Invicta, Calvin Klein, Fossil, Oakley and Kisai. Maybe someone can help me classify them in their appropriate country?
My next stop is US of A with either Nodus, Lorier or Islander. One of each will be in my collection at some point.
Immona skip Canada for now. But maybe Helios or Marathon very far down the road.

I can't help but notice that the map has a picture of the pre-1994 South African flag. South Africa doesn't have any watch brands to my knowledge, but there was a series of Lemania chronographs issued to the SAAF in the 70s and 80s. These are as rare as chicken's teeth and can fetch quite some money. I would love to own one one day. They aren't exactly made in South Africa (they were still made in the same Lemania factory as their other watches) but were an exclusive for the SAAF.
To think that a while back they weren't selling for around 10k USD...
If only I was a little bit older back then.
