How safe is your watch?

Shanghai and Hong Kong is pretty safe to wear watches, security cameras everywhere. If this was Toronto, I would be very discreet, not even take public transit with direct A to B travel in a private car. There were stories of blatant London Rolex burglary in broad daylight and even within their own stores. So how safe is your watch in your city and how do you protect yourself? Would you even wear your watches on the street when travelling? Vacationing? Does your Popo protect you? Perhaps a sensitive topic?

It’s safe where I live. And I do a lot of traveling in Asia, never had an issue. But generally I would wear my watch anywhere I would travel to.

(No, I don’t have to worry about watch crime 😁)

·

I don't have any watches that people would recognize, and I'm not very friendly looking. Plus, I live in a somewhat rural place. If I didn't feel safe wearing a watch somewhere, I wouldn't go there.

·

I have a license to carry a concealed gun, so I don't worry about much. And like @Dallen said, if I don't feel like it's a safe area to begin with, I won't go there, plain and simple. Awareness and avoidance are 90% of your security.

This times 10000.

All predators, two leg, four leg, etc, don't like burning the extra calories to mess with prey that is alert and paying attention.*

I too also have/carry options to protect myself and others. But even when I travel abroad and do not, doesn't mean I'm not armed. Common sense, eyeballs, and as Hercule Poirot said, "Those little grey cells...(IFYKYK)" are always with me.

*There are a few exceptions, but if you find yourself constantly being targeted, one might need to reevaluate their life decisions 😆.

Toronto is pretty safe apart from gang violence in some areas, so I wouldn't worry too much. As others have already said, if you don't look like a victim, you're not likely to become a victim.

Now, if you're out drunk at 3am, any city can be dangerous, because the criminals know where the camera are and aren't...

That said, I wouldn't own a watch I was worried to wear around.

·

I can wear all my watches in the city I live in , it's not too big a city , admittedly at night around the city I am more aware

·

I live in rural Fenland ( NR Cambridge) so no worries about crime here, was only in the last 10 years we've started to lock the door (& that's only because of the constant influx of "outsiders")

Generally avoid cities, & you'd need to pay me lots to go to cesspit London.

It's a stupid post. They are making Toronto sound like Somalia with a public transit system.... And if you live in a city that's so edgy, you should be packing heat anyway..

·

Safe where i live. I dont think twice.

·

I live in Toronto, and I’m from somewhere near Shanghai. It’s not that bad in Toronto to be honest.

When you walk into a bad area, just hide the watch under a cuff (or take it off the wrist) Just don’t flex it everywhere.

Don’t drive a rediculously expensive car. That is more important

·

I live in a fairly safe city in the UK and work in London so I'm there a lot and I've never had issues. Awareness helps, as does common sense, but I've never felt threatened.

·

I live in FL. If you’re reaching for someone’s Rolex, you will likely meet their concealed carry firearm. May the odds be in your favor.

With a little practice you can tell if and how they carry, as many don't think much about firearm retention.

A careful carrier won't "print." 😉

·

It's not so much about printing, but the behavior of the person resulting of the awareness of the firearm, such as turning so that the firearm is positioned away from other people, but also shirt pulling to cover the firearm, or lifting the holster through the clothes.

Makes me wonder if there is similar behavior with watches. 😂

Generally pretty safe here in Dubai, I'm not worried about my watches when it's either a sea of Whoops/Apple Watches on people who couldn't care less what a regular watch is, or expensive watches that are worth my entire collection and house ten times over. Yeah I think I'm safe.

·

I really don’t think you should be that concerned in Toronto. Unless you’re in the wrong part of town or put yourself in some other situation where you’re likely to get robbed in general you really should be fine.

I am rather jealous of that. I live in what amounts to a dumpster. In a neighborhood where I can tell gunfire by caliber. I can’t imagine living any place that Idyllic.

I think what they do to thieves when they catch them is probably a very strong deterrent.

This is making me think how I was considering getting a yacht master homage because I thought the platinum bezel yacht master with the blue strap looked good. On the other hand I don’t want to get my ass kicked (or worse) for $110 Chinese watch. Nice thing about my Omega homage, none of the thugs know what an Omega is. They see a “Ploprof” and it looks just like another stupid bling watch to them.

Honestly I no longer feel safe in the SF Bay Area. I no longer use BART or any other form of public transit. After the push for defunding police departments crime has done nothing but escalate. Two friends were robbed while in their cars at stop lights. Part of my fear is well founded and part is simple paranoia. As a life long resident I’ve seen this change coming for quite some time and it’s finally reached a crescendo.

As for the list of safest cities it all becomes irrelevant when you’re the target.

·

I live in a fairly safe city. I also avoid going to stupid places and doing stupid things. Carrying OC spray and a gun also help, so I wear my watches wherever I want to, as long as I actually wanna go there.

It’s a real shame with what is happening in San Fran ..

Dubai is definitely safe … incredibly safe … great place with access to the sea and the desert

I mean … I grew up in Scarborough … funny story .. so in high school walking along a major road in broad daylight a guy comes up to me with a knife and asks for money … I’m in high school what money do I have? But being Canadian, he apologizes and leaves :) … but during trick or treat Halloween we did have to run away from a gang of hoodlums cause they wanted our candy … ahhhhh youth and innocence

I’m in GA and same result will meet anyone trying to take mine or my wife’s Rolex off our arms!
