Islander Northport Mod
I really like the Islander Northport, but the glossy orange bezel insert of this "Fireball" model always bothered me. It made the watch look bigger than it is (like an all-dial effect). So I finally decided to replace the bezel insert with a black one, just in time for Halloween!
This matte black insert looks much better to me, and makes the whole watch look more proportional and more toolish. While the insert was removed, I also brushed the top surface of the bezel which was originally polished. This mod was pretty easy and turned out great. I'm very pleased with the result.

Personally, I liked it before, it all seems a little more muted now but who am I? I like a lairy watch once in a while.

We all have our preferences and that's fine. I'm definitely more of a muted colors kind of guy, so this suits me better.

It's definitely satisfying to modify something and have it turn out just as good as imagined.

Look great! Looked good before also, but totally understand why you wanted to change it. Just curious, when you removed the original insert, did it disturb the lume paint on the back side?
I think it's cool that this watch was designed to accept SKX bezels, inserts, and crystals. I've thought about putting a domed crystal on mine.

The orange insert in this model has no lume, so I can't comment on that. That was another benefit to this mod, it now has a lumed triangle/dot.
I used the grip tape solvent method to remove the original sapphire insert, which came out undamaged.
I like it. I feel the the orange may have been to much. Maybe a black date wheel? I need me a island watch.

Oh, okay. I didn't realize the orange one wasn't lumed. I have the blue "swimming pool" one. I just always wondered if lumed ceramic/sapphire inserts could be removed without damage to the lume.

I don't believe there is a UK distributor yet, but they will ship to the UK from the US, but there would be import taxes.
The black bezel now makes the orange dial a focal point. Well executed and looks great!
Very nice indeed. I just picked up this seafoam green Northport and absolutely love it,especially the ridiculous lume!
