WTF is all this "Journey" crap???

I've had watches since the early 60's and never been on a journey.

WTF is up with all this "journey " stuff??

They're watches plain and simple and you don't have to travel the world to get them.

If watch collecting is some sort of "journey" then I suppose those people on the hoarding shows are freaking explorers.

And don't get me started on "daily drivers"-it's not a car.

I don't get it either. The best I can come up with is that it pre-supposes that watch collecting should "lead" somewhere.

I think it's a band from back when they had these things called "compact disks" from a place called Napster......🤔😅

Speaking of.....

While on my "journey", I've come across this almost perfect "daily driver". Its literally "God-tier", and basically a "GADA" type "beater". I would classify it as a "strap monster", but @Aurelian requires that I keep it on this watch steward single pass for the duration of #1wc or he will DQ me.....

Here is an example of my two favorite WRUW pics, one of which showcases my other "daily driver"*, the other is a glorious "crotch shot"......

Don’t Stop Believin’ in The Journey

·

“Journey” is a metaphor for the collecting experience. While on your journey you learn about yourself and about watches. The journey is about watching your tastes change and develop over time. It’s about learning what makes you tick. It’s about taking in information, processing it and allowing it to change how you think. The journey is about developing, maturing and refining your thoughts, feelings and tastes. It doesn’t necessarily have to be about watches, it can be about any activity that inspires introspection.

"Foghorn fur Sheriff😠".... It's not a journey goddammit!!

It's the chase of the dragon. The more accurate term would be something like descent, as that's usually how addicts describe their decline once they reach bottom. The beginning is contentment and the destination is madness, desolation, embitterment. Most are utterly delusional about the folly of it all and the effect on their psyche while in the grip of the lunacy though.

Agree, there's a lot of pretentious bs out there....if you don't use the right lingo you're not in the club 🙄🤣

·

This irks you now? Where were you when I needed you?

·

LOL!! I don't see the acquisition of my modest collection as a "journey", but to each their own. If other's see their watch collecting as a journey, quest, trek, hajj, pilgrimage, crusade or whatever, then that's OK by me! 😎

I do like that song. I didn't like Journey because of Steve Perry's voice but it seemed to fit that song. Also, the drums in "Separate Ways" are pretty good.

Pretty dark, but I can't see you are wrong. I have an addictive personality, and I've hit this bottle(watch collecting) hard. But I'm also an responsible adult and I can see the traps. Will I dodge them all? Nope. But the drug could be worse. I like shiny circle things on my wrist... I'll take it.

Man is hard-wired to be drawn to shiny objects.

Oh Puhleeze!!

It has nothing to do with finding yourself, seeing what makes you tick, or how you think. It's liking watches-NOT a Dr. Phil episode.

What's fun in watchcrunch is that you can feel free or comfortable talking about watches and this passion in general. I think its fun to use wathever terms or expressions we like without any form of negativity. I come here because on many other social media there's people ranting about so many insignificant things.

That's just my humble view and I hope that this place can keep a kind vibe so that people can say or think however about watches experiences and so on.

A journey is a beautiful métaphore that represents steps into knowing more about horology and the watch and learning about them and the stories behind them.

Cheers!

I think it’s a generational thing. I am 54 and when I hear words like journey, experiences, legacy, etc i find it hard to relate. Flowery words for otherwise basic activities.

·

Hey Jeff, thanks for the feedback on the (new deleted) first post of my atelier. I kinda agree with you on the website, it sounded like AI buzzword nonsense, so I am right now trying to rework it to be more about me and my journey. As for the watches themselves, I have been making them for my inner circle for quite some time now, and even though the brand is new, I am going to be taking the bespoke designs I made in the past and providing them to a wider audience. was there anything else you saw that popped out as 'wrong' about my curent presence, id love to know. And thanks again, i am not a web designer or a marketing manager, just a man who likes to build watches.

·

and yes, I live in Edison, New Jersey, and yes, my name is Rhythm Vij, lol. can't change those.

Well maybe the location.

LOL Why are you on watch crunch if things like this bother you? The entire community is far too obsessive about watches, that's the whole point.
