The perfect "poor man" Sub?

Now that the SKX is discontinuous, what is the perfect "poor man" Sub?

  1. An Orient? I don't see so many Orient's wrist-shots.

  2. A Casio? There are no mechanical Casio that I know of!

  3. A Citizen... I don't know!

  4. A micro-brand? They are a "niche" not for the masses.

Do you have an opinion on this?

Citizen promaster divers

I’d say a Scurfa Diver One D1-500.

Good luck getting one though. I’ve been trying everyday for over a year now!

·

I would have said the Seiko SRPD as the direct replacement for the SKX. However I would be more inclined to buy an Orient if value for money is the deciding factor.

·

Islanders have plenty of SKX-alternatives for like $250. Check em out!

Rather than saying “poor man”, how about we say budget friendly?

“poor man” is much more funny

Citizen in my view make the best entry level divers. There is also an argument for Orient since they are cheaper then Citizen but spent 150 bucks more and the promaster line is just better.

To be honest I'll put citizen divers over the seiko prospex line. Sure seiko has fantastic designs and cool pedigree but citizen watches are built at least at the same level plus they have better movements and they are cheaper.

Shout out for the Tissot Seastar 1000 36mm for those who like smaller divers. It has an original design, 300m water resistance and a high accuracy quartz movement +/-10s/year. I find it v comfy as it's under 10mm thick. Recently picked one up on sale for £220.

If you're bothered about such things, it's not a true dive watch as it doesn't have ISO certification or a lume pip on the bezel.

Easy it’s the seiko 5 gmt

Ok it’s only 100m water resistant but nobody needs a watch for even half that

Or the 1953 if you want to skip the engraving, date/cyclops, mercedes hands, applied indices, and polished mid-links but still have a 200m diver, Seiko movement, and good bezel action.

A brand that copies the design of other known brands, in my opinion, is automatically disqualified 😎

Logical study says that most of the Sub owners become "poor man" since they purchased the overpriced item 😁😁

The one you customize is the answer for me at least…

Doesn't look much like a Sub' though.

It's modeled after the original reference 6204 Sub from 1953.

I would argue the invicta pro diver.
