How it’s going

What a journey! I started paying interest to watches about a year ago and got my first automatic watch in May 23. After what I feel has been a true self-knowledge experience, I probably have now what could be considered a “core collection”:

  • Tudor Black Bay 58 Blue. If you have spent more than 5 mins in any watch internet discussion, you probably consider this either THE modern classic or an overvalued homage, which (PRX aside) turns this into a controversial pick but strangely also the safest 3k anyone can spend on a watch. Solid GADA that wears perfectly and will probably last a lifetime, which is kind of the point of the original 60s Rolex (I think the BB58 is in the same ballpark price that a sub cost back then).

  • Seiko Speedtimer “Seitona” SBDL085 (SSC813) — I just love this little thing. As a commemoration of getting the first auto chrono in space, Seiko’s solar quartz take on the Daytona is a handsome reminder of the legendary Japanese brand’s grit. The model is basically an official Seiko mod. Also doesn’t hurt that it retails grey for less than $400. Looks sick on a jubilee.

  • Hamilton Khaki Field AT 38 mm - movement H-10 aka ETA C07.611, design language from 1940s/60s – My first Swiss, bought at the flagship store of Macy’s. Dead on balls budget accurate field watch and the best option at its price point. Staple of a brand packed with history. I proposed to my fiancée wearing this so it’s not going anywhere.

  • Rolex Date Oyster Perpetual Ref. 15200 (2000), original design 1926 — Arguably the most influential watch model of the twentieth century. Classic, timeless piece. Halfway between elegant and sporty, the OP makes for the perfect daily office driver. Being a desk jockey myself, this is the watch that I most wear. Can’t deny the crown!

  • Omega Seamaster 2846/48 (Cal 501). A model that dates back to 1948. This particular watch is from the 50s, so it’s the grandpa of the collection. The two-tone crosshair dial has that certain crisp glamour that Genta captured with the Polerouter in 1954. The Seamaster is the longest product line still in production by Omega. Its signature Seahorse is probably the coolest and most iconic caseback logo of all time.

  • Junghans Max Bill Handaufzug (calibre J805.1 base ETA 2801-2), original design 1961. Clean, universal, Bauhaus design that works with everything. Only manual in the collection and a 34 mm that wears a bit bigger because of the monochromatic silver dial without bezel. I think this watch evokes the same language design that influenced the most popular consumer products today (looking at you, Apple).

  • G-Shock Square. Yeah, I also have a watch that actually works. This replaced my old F91-W and it’s comfy and tough. A mean killer. A true beast.

Happy to share this… it took me ages to write and hope you guys have a wonderful weekend! Keep it real.

Yes, plan is to do just life event watches now. Definitely still in the honeymoon phase with all these!

Class idea! I just got a life event watch and it’s immediately a permanent fixture. I’ve toyed with that Hamilton for years love how it looks in pics but never sold when I try it on.

Enjoy each! 🙌

That #vintage #omega is my grail watch.... vintage '62.

It’s a stunner and the movement is also super cool. There is this guy in England that just sells vintage Omega (https://watchvintage.co.uk/home) and that’s how I learned about this particular model!

Appreciated! It took me a whole year and a handful of mistakes but it was worth it

·

Great stuff. All classics in their own way.

·

Beautiful collection! And that Omega is an absolute eye catcher!

·

I really like your Omega! Great strap choice for your Max Bill Junghans - where did you get it? That’s a type I’d like to try out on a watch or two…

·

Nice little collection so far! I'm too embarrassed to tell anyone of my 3 year journey to low triple digits just yet 😂😂😂

Thanks! Yes, history was a major factor when choosing. Wanted to have something representative of my fav brands without getting too deep into vintage stuff

Thank you! Yeah I wasn’t a big fan of gold but it just makes sense with this piece

·

Very cool collection!

Tribute, homage, reinterpretation… I try not to get too fixated on semantics :)

Guess my point is that there’s some people that believe the model is a Rolex Submariner wannabe when imh at least it beats the modern sub in many important (at least for me) aspects.

Oh for sure, I just don’t understand the thought process of those people haha. I mean, Tudor has its own sub heritage

I prefer it to the modern submariner as well

·

Amazing, really appreciate the curation here!

Yeah I think the word there should be “reinterpretation”? I agree that homage is usually used for watches that are obviously copies

I’ve never heard someone refer to the black bay as a homage. If anything, it’s a homage to itself. All of the design features come from different vintage Tudors.

·

Bloody hell that’s some quick collecting!! Well done!! Great choices too really like them. My personal fav is the max bill I love that watch

·

Amazing collection, I love every single one of these !! 👏

Get a gmt for one of those watches and that is pretty much the perfect collection. This is what I hope my collection will look like one day.

Yeah I agree, there was some exchange about this

Depending on budget these would be my pick but I also really like the Seiko alpinist gmt. The green CW would probably be my pick.
