Grail Interrupted

Excited to share this. At today’s Manila meetup organized by @hakki501, @sfreak, and others, I got this early 1980s Cartier Tank. I made a deal with my vintage girl and we agreed that she would bring it to the meetup. She also brought the JLC Reverso that I ended up turning down because I couldn’t afford it just yet.

Both the Tank and the Reverso are dream watches of mine. I always thought that if I get one I probably won’t get the other. Admittedly, next to the Reverso the Tank feels like a consolation prize. But like I said, both are dream watches and I’m equally happy to get either. Also, what am I supposed to do? Get a watch I couldn’t afford?

PS: there was practically a queue of Crunchers wanting to hold and study the Reverso. I must admit that I got goosebumps when I myself held the Reverso. I’m glad my vintage girl indulged everyone. She told me she would sign up to WatchCrunch.

That’s a stunner. Congrats man!

I think you and your watch handler 😅 made a lot of people very happy to handle, not only the reverso, but a lot of vintage grails for the first time in their life’s, so thank you. And I’m looking forward to more.

·

Beautiful! I hope you guys had a good time. 🤗

·

Lovely. Personally I'd take a Tank over a Reverso (value aside) anyday! 😍

·

i wish someday i could buy a reverso too

·

Great classic piece 👌🏻

Nice story 💪🏻

·

Smart move. The Reverso is my grail watch as well. But you are correct to work your way up to the JLC than to struggle to obtain it. Nice Cartier watch!!

·

Thank you so much sir! Goosebumps indeed when I handled that beautiful reverso👌

Interesting

Vintage Girl? Like she is your girlfriend that dresses up in vintage clothing?

Oh. You mean a woman who is a vintage watch dealer. Got it.

·

I’m not much for Tanks, but that one is exceptional

·

It's a beautiful Tank and if it helps, it still looks like a winner! 😊

·

That Tank is great, when I first started collecting seriously in the 80s, lusted for the gold watches of the day including the Cartier Tank but they were a bit small for my wrist, price was also a problem, haha. Today the price is finally not much of an issue but still struggle with the size. Life goes on! Congrats on your Cartier!

Haha. Yes, I affectionately call the supplier of vintage watches my vintage girl. Hell of a lot better than drug dealer.

I still feel like I'm gonna get the Reverso if it's not sold in a few months. Though how likely is that, right? Fingers crossed.

I admire your restraint.
