Do G-Shocks count as tool watches?
I mean, I think they are. They have a purpose other than looking pretty (getting beat up), they can time whatever you need it to, they’re used by professionals (military members and other people in physically demanding lines of work), and they can do everything that a Rolex/Omega luxury “tool watch” can.

They are absolutely tool watches. Affordable, no frills, and meant to be taken anywhere and everywhere without worry. There are very few watches in my own collection that I would view as a true do it all, beater watch.
Gshocks are essentially the only real "tool" watch a person could ever need. The Gshock can survive things that your body can't. If you are wearing a Gshock and the activity you're doing breaks it, you're probably dead ☠️.
So yeah, definitely a real tool watch.
They don't just count as tool watches, they pretty much define them.

They are very much tool watches. Simply indestructible!!
Don't like them myself, but I'd say they're one of the only real tool watches out there.

They're pretty much the only tool watch, excluding the ones that cost three or four digits. If you spend more than like $50 for a watch, or it's mechanical, you're wearing for reasons other than utility and function. I don't care how rugged it looks, how much water resistance it has, etc. etc. All watches are cosplay.
I can see G Shock being a tool watch, more so than any Rolex ever created.
They appear so regularly in EDC lists that you couldn't really think of them as anything but tool watches. I think apart from Dress Watch, there is a G-Shock for every other watch category.
They are THE tool watch.
G shock is always been my tool watch when I was in track in high school, in the military and now in my present job.
