The "it's on my list" List

Do you have a favorite watch brand or brands that have really caught your attention, but for one reason or another, you haven't added to your collection yet?

We're not talking Grails; rather, an attainable watch or brand that you'd like to own but don't.

For instance, I love Nomos but like many, worry about the L2L wearing experience (but would still like to own one at some point because of the quality and value and design language).

So what are your "one day soon" watches or brands, and what has prevented you from already making that happen?

My “one day soon” watch:

What’s preventing me from buying:

I haven’t found a buyer on the black market for my slightly used kidneys. (When I do, this won’t be a grail and will be easily attainable.) If anyone is interested, DM me. No lowballers. I know what I’ve got!

·

If there’s an affordable watch I haven’t bought yet it is basically because it doesn’t fit in the collection on its current form and I can’t justify its purchase.

Examples:

Can’t buy a Seiko King Samurai because I already own a PADI Turtle. Can’t buy a Hamilton Ventura quartz because I already have a dressy quartz piece. Can’t buy a Baltic Bicompax because I already own two bicompax chronos.

·

I’d say Zenith. I’ve come close on a couple of occasions but still haven’t found the one that feels ‘just right’.

·

My next purchase is going to be Christopher Ward C63 Sealander GMT, will be my first larger cost purchase really wondering whether the price bracket increase is going to mean a good increase in quality from the usual £200’bracket I’m in now

Make sure that you get yourself a loupe as well if you don't already own one: the improvement in finishing alone between the price points is significant.

Enjoy it!

·

Nomos, Breguet, GO, Norqain, Farer, Moser. I don't plan to buy them all but certainly wouldn't mind. I haven't purchased any of these yet because I wanted what I already own before them.

·

NAVITIMER B01 CHRONOGRAPH 43.

I don't have a local AD and every time I stop by one, they are out of stock.

·

Tag Autavia Chrono, Mk XVIII Le Petite Prince, and a Breitling Pan Am. In the case of the first two I always find some else to spend money on. The later is a harder to find piece and usually over priced.

There any that you would recommend?

This is the one that I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MMYNX38/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=veloce09-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00MMYNX38&linkId=5d50d881c5626934bef02e6101d5588e

Inexpensive but works quite well. You can absolutely spend a lot more, but for our purposes of admiring the craftsmanship of our watches a little closer up, I don't really think that it's necessary

·

Longines.

I love their sector dial, Bigeye chrono, and 39mm GMT

For whatever reason, I never picked them up. I guess I’m waiting for the price to come down on the secondary market

·

Nomos is on my perpetual list too. Also really want a CW Celeste with the aventurine dial. I may seriously save up for that one in 2024.

·

Fortis will be my next purchase

·

Vacheron

·

A. Lange und Söhne, wish I could have one someday!

·

Favre Leuba Sea King

·

IWC and Tudor. Tudor will absolutely happen, it just keeps getting sidelined, I've had a couple Black Bays, a Royal, and a Pro lined up and used the money for something else last second, so that's just a matter of time. IWC, however, I've lusted after from afar for a while now and it's getting worse every year. They have perpetual calendars for the same price as Rolex sports watches, it's insane, there's so much incredible stuff going on at IWC. Plus the Lewis Hamilton collabs are only getting stronger too, I'm so into IWC the last few years.

·

Calatrava.

·

Lorus Fieldwatch RXF41AX7, or any fully lumed dial watch. The specific Lorus that I mentioned is hard to get here in my country sadly

·

This. Not exactly cheap, but I’m in love with it. I like to coordinate my watches with my outfit and I think this would be quite limiting and I’d want to wear it constantly. Guess I need a new black and gold wardrobe!

·

Bvlgari. I really love their unique design and movements but never enough to pick it over others.

·

The Tudor Black Bay with the burgundy bezel.

Love it! 😍

2 watches on my "dream list"..so far lol maybe one day.

I tried one of these on a year back, and it'll probably be the last watch I buy. Could easily be my every occasion watch. But for now, I'm keeping spending to a low limit and saving for a house.

·

GP, Jlc, moser next purchases.

·

I'm interested in Titoni, as my late fathers is one. I've picked up a couple of old ones off ebay, but I'd love a new one for myself. They're a bit premium for my budget though - so I'd have to really love it. It doesn't help that I keep buying more affordable watches!

Titoni is a great and often overlooked brand, very dressy-GADA

So, "Grail" is a relative term. This is definitely a grail watch of mine. Simple, modest and houses the mind-blowing technology of the 9F Quartz movement. I give you: Grand Seiko...

Nomos, and a Prospex. For the former it's about funds and latter is about value for money and being paralysed by choice.

JLC, not a fan of the iconic Reversos but respect a few of their other lines, was shopping for one at a JLC boutique last summer, chatting with a presentable, articulate young Chinese fella who greeted me first in perfect Mandarin before switching to English. Just as I was becoming interested in a silvered dial moonphase, my wife texted me that I was needed to offer an opinion on a designer bag that our younger daughter was shopping for with a bonus coupon from her employers. Never made it back to that suburban mall, not keen on the downtown ad that carries the brand downtown where I live. After all there are so many comparable watch brands to investigate.
