Nodus Contrail GMT or Islander Northport

I’m stuck between these two watches. Just looking for a fun dial for summer. Not really looking for a GMT, but the dial/bezel combo on the Contrail is really nice. Same with the Northport.. love it.. The price difference doesn’t bother me..

Any opinions welcome.. Nodus obviously has the better bracelet..

The travel GMT is more of a pain to set and if you don’t need the function do the Islander. You can also get more money off with signing up for their emails.

The Islander seems to be a perfect summer watch.

i like the look of the Nodus, but i just wish that blue was a shade lighter and less…electric. it’s nice but maybe a bit too bright for my personal preference. other than that, it ticks all the boxes. and it looks like Nodus has slightly better manufacturing tolerances than Islander. i’m gauging this solely based on the tolerance and gap between the bracelet and lugs in the photos you included. i’ve never held the Nodus in hand, but i have held an Islander in hand, and it feels about the same as a $200-400 Seiko. from what i recall, the Islander had a bit of a jangly bracelet, but then again it wasn’t this exact model that you are considering. so take that with a grain of salt.

Did not think about the GMT movement being a pain to set.. good point. Own any Islander watches? I’m scared the bracelet will be crap..

In order to set the date you will have to use the jump hour hand on that movement. I had one before and used to buy a lot of their universal bracelets. I have also had issues with the quick release bracelet on a Nodus and sharp edges. Personally, I have liked Islander bracelets a lot more.

I've had this watch now about 1.5yrs. It gets tons of compliments from non- watch people. The case shape is very comfortable. I'm satisfied with the accuracy. The quality is excellent. I can very highly recommend this watch

Between the two, the Nodus appeals to my eye more, but you do you.

Pretty sure all of Marc’s (the owner of Long Island Watch) bracelets are pretty good, all with milled clasps, solid end links and screwed in links. He usually does videos with the specs of his watches on his YouTube channel.

I’m a little biased, I have a handful of Islanders and have been wanting a turquoise Northport. The bracelets are gonna be fine, milled clasp, maybe three position microadjust, screwed in links, solid end links, and negative protruding at that—much better than your standard issue Seiko bracelet. If it’s about the summer vibe, the Islander hands down.

Nodus, all day every day.

·

I don’t think it gets much more “summer” than that Islander. 😎

·

I like both, but I'd go nodus. More expensive, but they have amazing designs and quality. Plus American assembly and better regulation before shipping.

·

I own that exact Northport in the Seafoam colorway and it is a very well built watch! best summer color in or around the water, IMO.

The fit and finish are pretty high quality, and the lume is spectacular including the bezel ring. You won't be disappointed.

You could always go with this Islander Northport as it has the bracelet you prefer and the dial is like looking into the Long Island Sound.

·

Further, make a visit to Key West and you can pick up a nice SPF covershirt that matches the gradient exactly!

I'm a Dan of Islander. I have 4of their watches and 2 of their bracelets for my Kamasus. Never been disappointed. Their customer service is excellent. Had a high beat Miyota, under warranty, running fast and they paid for shipping back and forth to Maryland Watch Company who repaired promptly.

Get both!!

·

I think I’m going to get the seafoam green Northport and just swap the bracelet to an oyster.. 👍

·

If you’re looking for something racy and bright, the Islander would be my suggestion; personally, I like the quiet rebelliousness of the Nodus. Also a better all-rounder, GMT is thus a bonus.

I like the Islander better. The dial is striking. I would go with that one. GMT in my opinion is useless if you don’t really need it.

·

It’s Nodus for me. Diameter and thickness are perfect for my wrist. Quality and customer service are fantastic.

·

I’m a six time Islander owner. Superb watches for the money.

·

Islander all the way! #islander

I have an Islander upper Brookville and love thr bracelet. Also have the Islander bracelet for my Casio Duro. Solid all around.

I’d go for the Nodus. In my opinion the islander designs are too derivative of the actual Seikos and the Nodus seems to bring a more original design. But the color of the Islander is popping 👌🏽

OP just needs the FUN part of FUNction so I vote the islander. That watch is gonna look so refreshing on the wrist on a hot day or feel right at home if you end up at a nice beach in Hawaii.

Saw it in person at Windup yesterday and it is a steal for the price!

Agreed on the gmt part being a pain to set if not needed (as someone with a Seiko 5 GMT and Black Bay Pro)
