My Humble Casio Travel Watch #watchjourney2023 is coming to an end!

The story of my humble Casio #watchjourney2023 Casio travel watch.

Good Morning Watch Friends ๐Ÿ™

I was going to wait until I received the watch back, but I thought I'd write this now.

Years ago, I had the idea of buying a watch and sending it to complete strangers to wear and pass on, this was before the internet and mobile phones, I wouldnโ€™t be able to track the watch, it would be out there for total strangers to take advantage of and keep and I wouldnโ€™t be able to do anything about it.

Or they would take it on board, and Iโ€™d finally receive the watch back after its journey and Iโ€™d have something completely different to what I sent out and a bag full of goodies for where the watch had been. So, the idea lay dormant for years, then with the creation of the internet and YouTube I discovered @WatchCrunch through @MWC2020 last year, and my idea could finally come to life. GOD IT MAKES ME SOUND LIKE AN OLD MAN!

So I bought a ยฃ20 Casio MRW-200H-1BVES.

#watchjourney2023

This idea led onto a conversation with Danni @AboutVintage and the possibility of using one of their watches as a travel watch. Amazing beyond my wildest dreams, see my other thread with regards the #aboutvintage travel watch. This one is currently starting with @Barkovitch

Also, whilst all this is happening, I spoke to @williamwoodwatches with my idea of a travel firefighter watch, having spoken to Jonny he agreed and my idea and this became reality as of September 2023, I wore the watch for a while and then the first stop was Rawdon Leeds after the 9th October, plenty of photos and stories to come.

Up to date 6 firefighters have used the watch while on duty #williamwood see my posts on here also.

So, my little idea of sending a ยฃ20 Casio watch out and about around the country, was Born and this turned into a worldwide trip, you guys are amazing.

I sent @WatchCrunch and @Max a message about the idea and they said they would create a badge to honour to project. Thank you Guys!

Image

Here we go, nervous in the beginning, curious as to the reception it would get as I posted the journey along with the participants, NO NEED TO WORRY, everyone on here is so lovely! ๐Ÿ™

So I packaged the watch up and started with Russ @Stracerwatches23 in the UK as he was the first person to show interest in the idea, he only kept the watch a short while but managed to get out and about and take a few photos in Lichfield, St Maryโ€™s church and market square, The birthplace of Dr Johnson (forefather of the English Dictionary) Thank you Russ.

See the #watchjourney2023 thread. Next stop Russ sent the watch to Mark @TyrogScot in Scotland, he took it out and about around Carnoustie, Arbroath and Dunnottar Castle among other places, he also modded the strap with a NATO in the Scottish colours of blue & white โ€œfantasticโ€ ๐Ÿ˜Š

Image

thank you, Mark. The watch was then posted 2 Canada 2 @chunky .

After a little break in the proceedings Adam came good with photos from the Baseball game, a football game where he wore the watch in goal and Niagara Falls.

Adam is a long time friend of mine from the days of Duke of Edinburgh in the UK and we stayed friends ever since, he moved to Canada but we kept in touch and we met up whenever he came over to see family and friends, heโ€™s a great friend and I was happy and excited to send the watch his way and have him experience it and be part of the journey.

Iโ€™ll get to Canada one day and repay the favour of all the trips heโ€™s made this way!

Thank you @chunky for the time spent with you, now on to @SpecKTator check out his posts on time with the Casio, Kevin did an amazing job of showing us around California and Disneyland, meals out and the Golden Gate bridge.

He added colour to the bezel in with RED, WHITE & BLUE thank you so much Kevin.

Next stop @Okavango in Calgary and Zachary made the biggest move yet with the Casio, after a few trips here and there he put his mark on the case back and engraved it with WATCH CRUNCH 2023 absolute superstar โœจ Thank you Zach.

So on to..

**SKYLER SANTANA**

Well I didnโ€™t think things could get any funkier with the watch that was until @Mr.Santana (a new friend of mine) this guy is the NUTS, he loves watches, he loves talking about watches, heโ€™s my new MAN CRUSH! And he knows it!!!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜Š

So Skyler had the watch a while and modded it, he originally completely modded it, but then took a step back and undid a few alterations to the watch. We had to keep the original colourway from Kevin, but I like what Skyler did to the dial, and the cheeky scamp kept a couple of bits for memories โค

Thank you, one day we shall meet! ๐Ÿ™

Skyler posted the watch on 2 @UnholiestJedi next and Todd had a ball with the watch, he had a few trips arranged, he had a fight with it, he made up stories 4 the watch, he created the watches own page, & he made a very lovely video of the watch on YouTube, see HERE

https://youtu.be/dv1LuoftNsM?si=2ZV4hF3XaFkxErc-

BUT the biggest surprise of all was the wooden memory watch box Todd made for the Casio, truly amazing, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for such a kind gesture. Ps $90 postage from USA back to blighty UNREAL GESTURE also big love Todd. โค

We have one out and about now as #watchjourney2024 but watch out for watch journey 2025! Iโ€™m thinking I might use a Casio Duro or ask Mr.Santana kindly to create another one

ยท

When I get the watch back Iโ€™ll put further post on with regards to whatโ€™s in the box and how I like the modifications done ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

One of these was possibly the first Casio I ever owned. Great little watch that I think I paid $10 for.
