Are you a WATCH SNOB/Big brand over smaller brand buyer?

Hello Watch Friends Are you a ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX person or is that itch scratched with a Seiko, Casio or other cheaper brand (MONEYTARY VALUE I mean) ? Thank you Ben

If I could just go and buy the Rolex I wanted for ~$3500 and get it within half a year, I might want one. Although, like many carmakers, they seem determined to not offer the combination of options that I actually want. This and more makes me quite content with what I have, which is considerably less costly.

I know exactly what you mean, with cars they have in the showroom, sell me that, oh I cant sir! why not!!

I'm sure things will soon go back to normal, so my 8 year old and 10 year old will have an easier way of life 🤣 at least Lego is plentiful for them!

I'm not even getting to the showroom. I mean they don't offer it all. Every time I play the fantasy "build your Rolex" game online I look around and think yes, I'll get this size case in that metal with that bezel, that dial, those indices, and then as I start selecting I hit a wall where it's not a thing they make. I may have unpopular tastes.

I love hunting for the best "bang for bucks" (which does not mean cheapest). I'm also like this with PC parts, cars, etc.

·

So in my case I‘d consider myself a massive Rolex Rolex Rolex guy. BUT that doesn‘t mean that I don‘t enjoy seeing other people enjoying other, cheaper brands. I get excited over anything that‘s got a bit of heritage and coolness about it. Geez, my best friend is an Omega Guy. But for me the crown is just the perfect product. Image Quality and Looks just work for me 😇

I'm happy to have inexpensive watches for the most part, obviously you get better bang for buck and lots of variation and experimentation.

For those snob moments when our friends get together and flash their DJs (honestly, we've heard the same stories behind them all for years now), then I'll either wear a Poljot De Luxe or a VC. They don't have a clue what either is and I don't tell them.

One (young) guy wears a 60s Omega Seamaster, he doesn't say anything about it, just wears it under his cuff. Class.

·

I like your thinking, so something like a Rolex Sub, there are homages, but then something like a Jacob & Co, you wouldn't want to wear those hideous homage watches. subtlety is the key if you are to go down the route of no other options.

I wonder how many Rolex people would talk to a guy in a bar wearing a Casio f91w, some people wearing expensive watches do so because they can and not because they know about the brand or watches in general. I like the response you gave, and thank you for taking time to do it 😀 i think like you say watches in general should just bring people together

I own Omega, JLC, Tudor, Sinn, Seiko, Briele, Orient, Vostok etc. I could buy a Rolex tomorrow if I wanted, because paying grey market prices doesn't bother me. I choose to buy the watches that I like. And right now, Rolex doesn't appeal to me. To me Rolex are like Grand Seiko. They're good watches. I can see why other people like them. I would recommend them to my friends, but they just don't suit me.

You are brave to put up this poll my man....😄 I am a proud cheap/affordable watch enthusiast and a passionate critique of insanely expensive "luxury" watches. At the end of the day Joy in this hobby lies in the pursuit, not in the purchase.

I’m all about those cheaper brands…. That’s why I wear Omega 😂

I love that reply, I'm the same, i have a collection of the Casio watches, i have a Davosa and a sevenfriday (in the more expensive watches) I love Seiko too, it's defo a hobby and I love the chase!

·

Neither, I buy what I can afford and like. Doesn’t matter if it’s an unknown brand or a well-known brand.

·

If I were rich, Rolex would be my SECOND choice. The Rolex that I would get is the Rolex Pepsi GMT-Master 16750. (Like the one Tom Selleck wore in the original run of Magnum, P.I.)

My first choice would be the Pennsylvania Tourbillon, by RGM. And it's not because I want to be flashy and show off; it's because the Pennsylvania Tourbillon is the most beautiful masterpiece of American watchmaking craftsmanship that I have ever laid eyes on, and I absolutely adore it. Click here to take a look at it.

That being said, I am perfectly content with my current array of affordable watches. I love every piece in my collection, and wear them proudly. 😀

I work in IT. Most of the watches I buy are pre-owned though.

·

Rolex does not make watches that appeal to me, so even if I was spending that kind of money, I wouldn't buy Rolex.

The Explorer is close, but the lack of a date would mean settling for a design I wasn't 100% happy with. If it did have a date, Rolex would use a white date wheel, and throw a wart on the crystal, ruining it in that way.

·

thank you all for the responses, i wasn't thinking this would get any traction at all, love all the posts and discussion, what a place WATCHCRUNCH is 👍

i get your point, it’s really the same with cars. The usual 911 driver wouldn‘t even recognise a rare or interesting vintage car, whereas the real enthusiasts will get why a 40 year old 3-Series might be fun and have a chat with the owner 😄

·

I can afford Rolex et.al and still choose Seiko.

·

I prefer cheaper watches as I can beat them up without remorse and also are more accessible to my budget. Even if I had the money to own a Rolex I wouldn't buy one, they are no longer selling watches but status symbols for people to recognize and don't get me started on the bazillion fakes out there which doesn't happen with cheap watches as the majority of the people can afford one.

The other things is that Rolex is not improving or adding variety to their watches in any way, shape or form; just lunching the same piece that has worked for then for the past 60 years.
