Here’s an unpopular opinion!!! I’ll give you mine, you give me yours! DON’T be shy! 🙈

Here is mine:

I really hate Grand Seiko. I know, I know, this is blasphemy, but I just don’t get them. I can understand they have excellent movements, super nicely crafted dials, etc., but they just look cheap in person IMO. I really want to like them because I respect Seiko as a brand, but I haven’t been able to. Plus, their bracelets look pretty much exactly like my Speedmaster’s bracelet, which I hate and which is why I rarely use it (though I like the bracelet on the newer models, which is another story).

What is your unpopular opinion?

Blasphemer! Quickly someone fetch a stake, a bundle of wood, and…a DUCK! We must burn this Grand Seiko hating sorcerer.

·

Agree with you, spring drive and textured dials do nothing for me either. Love Seiko tho.

Here's one, really dislike the whole Bland Bay range, a tribute act to the Sub (which I also really dislike) - I get it, Rolex cashing in on their design because a lot of other companies rip off their design, but I think it's a shame that Tudor really has degenerated into a pricey Clomage brand..

·

Christopher Ward sounds like a fashion brand and I can't get over the branding - so I have never been into them or their well deserved hype. They make great watches. Really it's me, not you. 😜

Same here, and I have an irrational hatred of their Swiss flag positive/negative logo.

Hahaha!!! We can’t all like the same thing that’s why I love this forum!! To have a different view on things but at times I do get tired of certain watch bashings but done in a light hearted and funny way it’s a bit more tolerable… 😁🍻

Abso-f&$&-lutely! It definitely deserves its own category. Just below the shit3 category. By the way, love your Tag Heuer F1. Pretty cool colors!

All automatic Daytonas are ugly. They look like they got stuck in the 90's. Thick bezel with shark tooth markings, crown guards (on a chronograph?)... why can't they fix those?

Yes, Speedmasters can be boring at times, and they're annoying with the constant Moon milking, but at least they're elegant.

This happens to me with Raymond Weil, I just can't

well i said what I really think of Hamilton and Tudor om another post and the emoticon reactions were fun to see :)

Let me add Bulova to the list. Their logo looks like something I'd like to stick up my worst enemy, and I find their designs mostly horrid... y'all may now proceed to bite me :)

·
  • Tudor (Poor ma… jk) I mean I don’t see anything unique besides being an almost Sub homage 🤷

  • IWC (Pilot) what exactly are you paying for??!

  • Casio (having more than one) I’m just not into digital.

Great Friday post 😅

That’s the same reason I don’t own a Ferrari. I don’t like the prancing horse logo on the hood.😂

Spring Drive is a Rube Goldberg Machine.

Grand Seiko looks like 80s mall watches.

Rolex wait lists are demand generated. Omega relies on limited editions and artificial scarcity to generate hype.

Panerai is a corrupt corporation that deliberately disrespects its most ardent fans.

The more I see and hear about Bremont and it’s founders, the less I like the company, and it didn’t start out very well to begin with.

They should have changed the name of the company when Christopher Ward left and started his own competing watch brand.

·

I’m fairly new here but I’ve had an on/off interest in watches for decades. For a long time I’ve disliked the lack of creativity in watch design. It seems like the world is filled with the same old uninspired watch designs that periodically get “refreshed” with a new color or something or some limited edition that leads to FOMO.

I would love to see more creativity and experimentation in watch design. There are definitely options out there, but in general things have not changed much. Hire not just watchmakers but also industrial designers to spark some imagination into watch design. Different shapes, different materials, different color pallets, unique blends of interesting components. I think the microbrands could bring this kind of creativity. Be bold.

But I could be the exception. Perhaps comfortable conservative designs are what many watch buyers want.

Rampant.😉😂

·

In the Seiko realm my unpopular opinion is the SKX coolness is overrrated at this point.

·
fearless2023

I don’t like Tudor. I own one (previously two) just for FOMO.

The only Tudor, in their whole line That I liked was the “North Flag”, and then the morons discontinued it…..smhs

I try not to post anything negative on here. But!

My blasphemous opinion is that in house movements aren’t worth the money for watches under £1,000.

That’s not to say they aren’t fundamentally what watches are all about. They’re the pinnacle of most watchmakers’ careers once they’re in production.

I don’t think it’s worth the extra cost for the consumer if the watch itself is under 4-digits in cost. At that point, an ETA, Sellita, Miyota or Seagull is probably the way to go in my mind.

In house is a fantastic marketing opportunity and it reflects the company’s commitment to delivering quality watchmaking. Personally I like it in my Patek, but an in house movement in my Studio Underdog or Baltic would undermine the value proposition of those two watches for me. If I want an in house movement then I kinda feel like it’s in for a penny, in for a pound. I realise this is going to pretty unpopular 😅absolutely nothing bad meant towards anyone who feels that they’ve worked hard for that in house movement at any price point.

In their defense, the name comes from their founders, and at some level they realize that the name itself might rub some the wrong way because they no longer print the full name on dial and use a symbol instead

·

Do you feel the same about Rodger Smith?

Yeah, typically don't like a full person's name on a brand - and this this extends to cloths and other products too. I don't/didn't like Tommy Hilfigir or Hugo Boss now or when they were popular.

Yeah, I think they understand they get/got lumped with fashion brands and made branding adjustments. Just not for me, no need to defend them, they make great watches. 😁
