Sometimes things just don't work out...

Anyone else get a call from the AD about a watch you're excited about; only to find your friends, wife, and family and the AD say, "I think the watch doesn't suit you." Happened to me recently and my heart sank.  I had done so much research into the Cartier Tank Must Watch, Extra Large, Automatic with Steel Bracelet.  Had everything in order for the purchase but it just didn't feel or fit right.  Hoping for another moment

Did you wear your Metallica t-shirt to the AD?

I might have gone smaller, but only you know you.

·

Sorry to hear that. Cartier can be that way. Many feel it is a dress watch and if you do not often dress up, others will say, it does not work.  I get comments with the Santos, so I totally get it.

Yeah the small one didn’t suit me either

thanks For sharing this. Appreciate the encouragement

Happens to me all the time with cars. Disappointing, but better to know.

·

Sorry to hear, but better to make that decision prior to purchase rather than further down the road.

Thanks for the empathy feels

I put an XL tank on a bracelet on a few weeks ago and had the same feeling…I have a 7 inch wrist but it actually looked too big…going to try a L on a strap when I get the opportunity…don’t give up yet!

·

The large quartz is where it's at. The XL is literally too much of a tank

Been there with a few watches.  Now you get to start the obsession all over again. Very cool friends and wife for calling it as they saw it! Saved you a grip of cash

This is how I feel about any Seiko or Bulova that I've ever tried on... they just don't contour to my wrist well.

"Tanks" for the advice.  Will check it out :D

Sooner or later you will find a watch that grabs you back. Those watches don't stand on their own and need the right clothes to make the "look". Its like wearing a suit to pick out a G-shock.

·

The Tank is an icon, but I don't like it either. It's a beautiful watch in a lot of ways but just not my style.

Somethings are better seen from afar. Saves $$$

Had the same experience last week with a bronze super ocean. It took 7 months to come in and I got the call, tried on the watch but it just did not look right, lovely watch but not for me now I have tried it. It’s important that you say no if it’s not right as it’s your decision and there are so many other watches that are on my list, so on to the next 😀 the hunt continues!!!

Thanks for this. Completely agree

·

If you like it, then why do you care what other people think?

·

Did your family mention any clues as to why it didn't suit you? Is it too dressy/formal/old fashioned/etc.?

The Tank is one of those watches that just looks better with a leather strap. Maybe it's worth another look?

I disagree that there is any thing such as too much tank.  If there is, it goes to the Tank Divan. Lol.  But I agree the Large size (and the Must series in particular) is as close as you’re going to get to the Tank Louis without dropping precious metal money.  The size is exquisite

·

Kudos to the AD...

·

It does look a tad big but I think that about most watches. My rule is if I like it I buy it, I don’t care what anyone thinks. Problems start when you ask opinions and when that happens you end up….getting them! If you like it go get it 👍

Yeah, too big. didnt like the shape and too delicate for my personality

·

This is just one guys opinion but I think it looks just fine from the pic obviously I cant tell how it feels on the wrist from the pic but it looks just fine *shrugs with sheepish grin

·

The tank is always better on a strap , and also that size is too big

·

“Tanks” for the advice. Large? any smaller it’ll be to dainty

·

Sorry about your experience. In my case I had a medium as I thought the small was too small. After owning it for a few months I sold it as the small really was the better choice and had the better watch to wrist dimentions.

I agree and think maybe you should look at it with a strap, it might totally change the look of it on your wrist. You. might also consider trying the smaller versions with a strap just to see what it looks like on your wrist.

I personally love the Dumont. But well done
