Any recent experience with Yema?

Hi all,

First post here! Hi!

I have been thinking about getting this watch as I find it beautiful and cool. However, I have heard a lot about Yema's not-so-good customer service and some QC issues with their timepieces, so I thought it would be a good idea to ask for advice from the community and see if you have any insight on this matter. Thanks!

Nice watches but the CS complaints are plentiful enough to use caution.

·

I’ll chime in. I bought a 2019 Yema Navygraf brand new from them when they first came out. Very early one. Had crown issues. Would not screw down. Sent it back and they fixed it. Customer service on my end was actually just fine. Never had an issue. I sold it last year. Kinda wish I still had it.

·

Bought the Urban Traveller few months back. No issues. Love the watch.

·

I have a quartz Superman. No issues QC wise. I don't love the clasp on the bracelet but a strap helped.

·

I have a meangraf, great watch

·

Terrible terrible terrible. Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced from a brand. Run.

·

I’ve purchased two watches from Yema in the past 3 years. Both arrived without any QC issues and I haven’t had any problems with them. So, I am unable to comment on their customer service.

I bought the limited edition Mario Andretti Rallye mechanical chrono a few years ago. Despite it being advertised on the site as coming with two straps, an autographed photo of Andretti, and other goodies, it showed up with just the watch, a single strap, and a mismatched buckle. I contacted Yema and they said that since I bought it on sale (they were running a promotion on the site at the time) they wouldn’t include any of the extras—something that was never stated at any point on the site or during the purchase. When I asked about the mismatched buckle on the strap and if they could at least send me a replacement that matched the watch and what was pictured on the site, they refused. When I said I’d like to return the unworn watch as part of their stated 14-day return policy, they refused because it was a limited edition. The interactions throughout were rude and dismissive. That they wouldn’t even give me a replacement buckle to make me happy—keep in mind this was $2500 watch (by far the most expensive they offered at the time) —was just absurd and their refusal to let me return it despite it being so obviously and objectively different from what they described and pictured on the site was just ridiculous. I sold it at a loss just to be done with them and even though some of their designs are intriguing and even tempting, I won’t give them my money again and will actively try to discourage anyone from buying one. There are too many other great watches out there, no need to reward Yema for being such a crap company to deal with.

I own a bronze Yema Superman; it looks a million bucks and runs like a champ. As for CS, this is one of my bugbears and I'll try and cover it as concisely as I can here. Occasionally you run across the odd comment from people who have had some sort of issue with Yema CS. There's a particular YouTube video I'm thinking of, where the guy sounds like a total dick and nothing in the world would suit him anyway, which I've always taken with a grain of salt for that very reason. But yes, you can find the odd complaint in a video, or on a forum; but no more than you'd find for any other brand. What you find a lot more of, are people saying a variation of, "I've heard stuff!" These people haven't actually dealt with Yema CS and, indeed, don't even own a Yema watch. But they always want to throw their 2c in, maybe more than they would with any other brand. It's very strange. So between most of what you read online not coming from actual cases, but people who have "heard stuff" (in that sense, it's up there with, "My cousin's brother's nephew says..."), and the fact that the watches are solid and you will likely never need to speak to Yema CS in your life*, I really wouldn't worry. Buy your Yema and be happy. They're a great independent brand.

(*Perhaps outside of servicing, if you intend on sending your watch all the way to France for servicing, but I would note, in that scenario you are choosing to do that; it's not going to be forced on you...)

I have 12 different Yema modern releases in my collection including chronographs, yachtimers, dive watches, etc. with a variety of movements.

I have yet to experience any issues with any of the watches.

Anytime I have had to reach out to Yema with questions about products (or in one case a missing free strap), I have received prompt courteous responses. And in the case of the missing strap, it was sent immediately upon my request.

I understand others have had issues especially with the LCD quartz watches. I would not doubt them, I just have not ever had an issue.

Here is a selection of some of the collection...

What's funny with the stories about Yema after sales service is that they are mostly based on hearsay. I own 3 Yema, one of which fell and broke and I had to send it back for repairs, the whole process took 3 weeks which included communications, always polite and professional, international shipments, clearing from custom and of course the repair itself.

I honestly had much worse service experiences from more established and renown brands that supposedly should have been better.

That being said does Yema does act oddly occasionally, however that's mostly on their sales and promotion side, and I found that their service is fine.

Also, I personally would not buy this Rallygraf due to its VK64 meca-quartz movement which lacks a running seconds register, leaving you stuck instead with a rather useless slaved 24hr indicator.

#welcome to Watchcrunch.com

I been thinking about getting a Yema for a while, I have not pulled the trigger yet sorry I am not helpful

·

I have a similar model (maybe older version??) of the one you posted. I bought it used from ebay so i cannot say anything abou cs. In terms of qc, as you can see from my photo the chrono sec hand is off maybe half a mm to the left. Other than that all has been good

I own this Spacegraf Zero G. Simple, comfortable, good lum, no complaint with this watch nor the brand

Thanks for that, that's terrible to hear, I will gladly stay away

That's what I was getting at, above. Didn't get any response from the OP, even though I'm an actual Yema owner, giving sound advice. Oh well! One of those scenarios where people seem predisposed to want to run a mile from the brand and if 1 person has an issue, but 101 people say there are no issues, they side with the 1 over the 101. Personally, I find that a bit weird, but each to their own as the old saying goes.

I have Navygraf, bought used but still under warranty. The bracelet is comfortable, but the clasp is stiff in operation, a small but real issue. The included MN strap works well. I haven’t needed their service department.

Couldn’t agree more. I own three modern Yema’s. Excellent QC and delivered promptly with great comms. I’ve had the opposite experience with Seiko!

I’ve owned a Superman GMT & a rallygraph. The Superman GMT being 3 years old, have had a good experience with them since day 1. Superman GMT needed a service after 3 years, everything was handled by YEMA properly & efficiently.
