Invicta, Jacon and Co, Hublot. Somtimes Omega and Tag produce gaudy or questionable limited edition watches. I'm not familiar with Corum. U.Nardin is rarely mentioned.
Yep… Corum get a lot of stick, bring it, I still think they make more interesting watches than most.
Here is the thing - they do make some very technical pieces as well. The Golden Bridge is very interesting, their Design Concepts are quite neat, and despite appearances, the Bubble has a lot going for it. The Admirals Cup is a nice sporty watch as well. They do, sometimes, swing and miss in terms of limited editions and one-offs, but they do well in the Asian markets, and they offer a bold option if you are willing to accept.
Jacob & Co they proudly brand themselves as watches for billionaires. While they have some technically marvelous watches, a lot of their stuff screams "Flex buying".
But the general public? Not everybody know Ronaldo or Mcgregor, much less pay attention to them.
I’ll settle this..Based on @StevieC54’s criteria, no watch is controversial because the general public doesn’t really pay attention to watches. The most bought watch is Apple’s creation.
So I think OP is asking in the watch community which watch is the most controversial?
I think it’s the dang fake clones/homages. But that’s just me.

All true. But, I’ve seen one in person (astronomic) and damn they are mesmerizing. I wouldn’t wear one, because frankly they aren’t comfortable looking and thick and fragile (plus the I can’t afford one thing). But man they are cool in person
and I have a love/hate relationship with it as well. I love the fact that it plays into my other hobby, as it's made from a genuine $20 gold piece and is a watch. I hate the fact that they destroyed a genuine $20 gold piece to actually make the watch and completely ruined it as a coin. Also, the missing seconds hand kills me from the watch perspective.
You make a smartwatch, okay (Apple). Then a Haute Horlogerie swiss brand makes a 20k flick watch. Then Apple makes a smartwatch looks like just the high end flick wathc. What could be the next move in this "beef"? 😂

The big flex:
Apple buys Moser, then just shuts it down and fires everyone.
Just for shitz n giggles on a Tuesday afternoon with change from the between cushions from an executive’s couch.

For real tho’, I love Moser and the wacky stuff they do!

I'd say Jacob an Co
If we're going by lewd imagery it's tied between Corum and Ulysses Nardin, I think.

Some of the Frank Mullers are oddities too.

I think it’s more a status symbol than a watch
I think it’s more a status symbol than a watch
I thought more of a map of space, gambling machine or piano 😂🤣👍
I think it’s more a status symbol than a watch
But nobody outside the watch world know Jacob & Co. So how can that be a status symbol?
OK, controversial?
How about Rolex?
Lots hate 'em, lots love 'em, ain't that controversy?
APPLE

I still say that most Jacob & Co offerings look like a collaboration between Helen Keller and Chat GPT.
I like RM but this watch was weird I thought

Only Swatch, in recent years, has caused as much debate and argument as Rolex does.
APPLE

Swatch watch with bunnies is a winner in this category
The only Corum I've ever considered:

The design language of Moser doesn't speak to me, but I admit they produce exceptional stuff!
But I am very open minded, if someone wants to convince me they would fit me, I can accept one or two! 😉 😂
I guess that it depends on the definition of controversial.
Brutal consumerism? Maybe Hublot.
Unfortunate brand naming decision? Without doubt it's going to be U-BOAT, unless someone come up with the Fat Boy or Zyklon B next.
Nouveaux richness decadence? Jacob & Co. & Richard Mills are definitively there.
Porn? Well here it's hard to beat Ulysse Nardin Hourstriker Erotica watches.
Blatant money grab run? Easily the MoonSwatch the other plastic wonder.
