Are these watches too similar?

I currently own and love the Omega SMP in this black dial rubber config.
I also love the Pelagos but the original was way too big. I’m really tempted by the 39 now but is it not just basically the same as I already have?
Anyone had any similar concerns with these or other watches?

For me? Way too similar.

No way!  Those watches are unique!  You should definitely add the Tudor.

Here's my collection for reference...

I almost took you seriously for a second.. 🤦🏻‍♂️

If I’m being objective, then I agree. But I love both (assuming nothing puts me off when I see the Tudor in the flesh)

You should never take anyone with a username like @HotWatchChick69 seriously. Especially this one.

That's the thing. I have an opinion about it, but it doesn't matter if you love it.

I don’t think so, but that’s me. If you’re uncomfortable and trying to decide which is right for you, might I point out that one of them has a giant cancerous growth at 11 o’clock, and the other is beautiful. You’re choice.

We’ll that’s just sexist. And hotist.

haha. I already own the one with the cancerous growth. I was debating whether I should add the Tudor to the collection because of it.

·

I would personally wait to see if they release a blue pelagos 39.  It should give some time for the hype to die down and definitely would not overlap with your SMP.

·

I'm absolutely floored by the Pelagos, so I'd say pick it up as well!

But, an idea that could help you to decide would be to wear the Omega when you go into the shop to check out the Pelagos in person. I think that would help you make up your mind.

·

They seem quite different to me.

But really, this hobby is beyond sensible justification. Just get what you like and be responsible.

·

Maybe they look similar... but who cares? if it brings you joy... :-)

I know, but I couldn't let an opportunity pass without mocking the growth.  Actually, I wouldn't care so much if that weren't such a great watch.  It would be very near the top of my list without that thingy.

To answer your question, my first reaction is that Tudor is as close to perfect as a watch can get, so if I needed to sell the Omega to make it happen I absolutely would.  In a perfect world, they're two different watches, keep them both or sell the Omega and get a blue one, then get the Tudor.  But if it's one or the other, I vote Tudor.

·

What do you mean? There is absolutely nothing similar!

Lugs: twisted Omega Lugs vs Straight Lugs

Case: traditional Omega Case with Helium Valve, vs Slab Style Tudor Case

Indices: Round vs Square

Date: Date vs Nodate

Hands: Skeletonized Hands vs Snowflake Hourhand

Dial: Wave Dial vs Plain Dial

Bezel: Shiney Bezel vs Sunburst Bezel

Bezel Fonts: Completely different

outer Bezel Ring: Wavey Bezel Ring vs Submariner Bezel Ring

The only thing they got in common? They both have 1 Red Line of Text.

Great duo 👏

There are people who collect every Rolex Submariner (or insert your own preference here) reference they can find. They‘re extremely similar but they love and embrace the small differences in each one. It only matters if you want it to

yes and no. Yes if you have rubber straps on both. The seamaster imho looks better on its oem rubber strap. Put the 39mm Pelagos on its titanium bracelet and they don’t look nearly as similar anyone.
The Pelagos is more tool watch with an all brushed design and the Omega is more blingy with ceramics and more polished surface and dial.

Yeah I think the Pelagos would have to live on the bracelet if I get one.

I’m aware of all of this. But the design language is the same even with these differences. My question is that is it worth having both?

I don't see why not.

The Watches look fundamentally different.

I mean, I don't know the reasons why you collect, but for me, if a watch ticks a number of boxes, I'm buying, regardless of whether I already have a similar watch in my collection.

·

i think most of the dive watch design came from the rolex submariner. so its like same but if you look closer then you find some difference

I don’t know why I collect either 😂😭 but I have a small collection so I’m debating whether to go for some variety first before I start purchasing similar designs/styles of watch.
I’ve had my eye on the Santos for a while as well as hunting for a cool GMT.
however, I loved the original Pelagos. Just found it too big so this one is calling out to me haha.

·

Go For the Omega but on the bracelet. Omegas new extension I feel is superior to Tudors and The Omega has the bond Connection. They both have really good movements with a similar sweep so in the end it comes down to design and comfort.

Tudor all the way. Titanium bracelet AND rubber strap for less than steel bracelet or rubber strap SMP

·

Close but each has enough unique flavor that each brand brings . both solid choices but together an impressive two watch rotation.

·

I have tried on the Pelagos 39 and it is truly superb.  It’s slim, light and easy to wear but still has a great visual presence.  This is probably the single best release this year by any company.

If I had to choose now I’d make that choice. But I already have the SMP so is it worth having both..

I think it is. If your SMP is on a strap / bracelet / both you’re getting a bracelet / strap / titanium with the Tudor. And if you decide you don’t like the Tudor, you’ll be able to recoup the money spent.

The example I was able to see was already sold but they let me try it on anyway.
