Do you LOVE it?

Gentlemen, Ever since I have joined the WatchCrunch community, I had this impression that orient is not as valued as I personally value it as a brand. And really just wanted to know your opinions as just I believe that Orient is one of the best makers out there right under SEIKO to me.

Tell me what you gentlemen think.

Orient is a phenomenal brand and definitely makes some amazing timepieces! I haven’t added one to my collection as of yet but definitely it’s on my “hit list”

·

That's a handsome watch.

Maybe because the average age here is higher, so there's a higher disposable income available so folks tend to go for more expensive watches. That's where I'm at anyway, been into watches all my adult life (I'm 53) , so tend to gravitate towards higher tier pieces - sadly Orient weren't readily available years ago, so we jumped on the Seiko bandwagon and tend to remain loyal.

Do think they're a underrated brand. 👍🏻👍🏻

·

Orient will be what Seiko used to be if prices continue rising on Seiko's.

·

Absolutely amazing brand that offers great value. I love their logo as well. I love my 4th gen Bambino. Of course, my blue Kamasu as well. You don't get Sapphire Crystal, screw down crown, 200m WR, very often. All for just $200. You just can't beat that. Not even Seiko.

I would venture so far as to say Orient can surpass Seiko if they expanded their offerings. I do not refer to Grand Seiko and Credor lines - Orient simply does not have products to compete with those lines currently. But the Orient Star models can certainly hold their own when pitted against most presage models. Orient also has a few vintage and recently reissued solar models but still come in fourth place behind Seiko Solar, Casio's Tough Solar and the undisputed Citizen Eco-drive lines.

I do not think there is a need for Orient to offer new models like the glut of different Seiko models we have (SKX, samurai, turtle, Shogun, Tuna etc.). I would propose that Orient improve on the variations offered for their existing models and creating an abundance of modding parts and customisation options. This should entail less cost than launching new models that may or may not pick up (an example would be the Orient Kano, that never became as popular as it's more spectacular and durable sibling, the Kamasu).

I recently contemplated getting an Orient Solar chronograph in green when I saw how practical and useful it would be for my lifestyle. I never went ahead due to owning my existing Kamasu in the same teal green minus the chronograph and powered by an automatic movement in place of a solar one.

In conclusion, I would pick an Orient over a similarly priced Seiko and feel that, if scaled, Orient is bigger and a greater value proposition than its older sibling.

Kamasu is a killer for budget people

I love orient!! Great value for the $$$

·

I think Orient make some of the best value watches out there. Kamasu and Bambino are definitely standouts.

·

I echo what most have already said here. A truly special brand that offers incredible value, fit and finish for what is charged. The product hits well above their weight and even compared to similarly priced big brother seikos, they are better. Really handsome watches with a very nice logo. I currently own 4 older orients (including 2 orient star explorients) and 1 modern Mako 40s. I love them all incredibly and they get plenty of wrist time along with my omega, Longines, etc. The current modern orient star models sadly are a bit lackluster for major consumption with the skeleton heart dials imho. Ultimately, lovely brand that I personally cherish.

What is a good site to order authentic Orient watches from?

·

Orient is one of the best value propositions in watches. Period!

·

Love Orient and Orient Star. A lot of people don't realize they have a fraction of the staff that Seiko and Citizen have. And to be able to compete with them is something I admire. For anyone interested, this short video covers some of their history: https://youtu.be/d0LuphBxOg0?si=T0dTyndmTkYmFD3U

Amazon has an Orient store that you can find just about all of their current catalog.

Sometimes at the best price, sometimes not.

Island Watch is an AD, but stock can be low at times.

·

Great brand in my opinion and has taken up the market that Seiko has abandoned.

It’s funny you ask. Does the name Orient refer to the noun “countries in East Asia?” Or does it stand for the adjective “Lustrous, sparkling?” I’m not sure.

I guess whenever I see the name Orient I think generically of “the countries of East Asia” and it has less appeal because it seems “generic” for lack of a better word. Because East Asia includes some countries that haven’t historically been known to produce the most quality timepieces…I probably have wrongfully discredited it.

I think there is a lot to the naming of products and psychologically it has an impact on brand reach / reputation etc. Look what applying the label of “Swiss” does in watch marketing!

I just took some time to educate myself on Orient’s history and I’m intrigued. I still kinda wish they would have given it the game of Yoshida or Toyo due to those names being important in the brand history. But that’s my $0.02.

I learn something new everyday when looking into watches! This was a fun learning adventure. Thanks OP!

·

I have an Orient Bambino and it punches way above its price range. I don’t plan on collecting all the sub $300 Orients but seriously considering upgrading to an Orient Star some time in the future

·

Haven’t really researched and explored the brand but only heard good things about it.

·

I own 2 myself, they make a very good series of dive watched and the Bambino is a sharp dress watch.

·

That's the thing, right under seiko, they use to have royal orient that is on par with gs from back then. Well, thanks for the umbrella, at least it still continuing. Still a good bargain though.

·

This Cruncher definately values them. Excellent quality for the money. I own 3 Orients and love them all. In my opinion Seikos, although offering many beautiful models, are overhyped and overpriced

·

I love Orient. I might go as far as to say I like as much as Seiko. I know Seiko has a much larger catalog but I have been very pleased with the Orient's I own.

@Vinnie.Fox I totally agree with you, for me Orient and Orient Star is truly phenomenal and they have their own swagger and presence. I also just want to share that my 1st automatic watch is from Orient and it will always be one of the most special watch I own among the rest of my collections

Yes @Wadios they really do have their own presence!

I saw the orient on your profile I think that’s the one you are talking about. It’s beautiful!

I can tell you it’s really great! You will be surprised as its price point is really why it is not that known and loved in my opinion. Most people want status and flashy stuff. I’m not saying they shouldn’t, I’m just saying that what really matters is the craftsmanship in a watch then comes everything else. You know what I mean?

I’ve seen good reviews from my fave YouTube channels like Teddy Baldassare, Just the Watch, Just One More Watch, etc.

My daily Orient watch.

Orient was the brand that sent me down the road to perdition over a dozen years ago. I really like the brand, its watches and the reliability of them. One of my favorites is my Kamasu and I'm not really a big dive watch person. I also like that they are refining their catalog constantly. They are great watches.
