Seiko Turtle Tastic

I haven’t seen much love or any post about the Seiko Turtle here on WatchCrunch.

An overlooked comfortable and reliable Seiko from their vast array of watches. For some reason and I’ve owned two variations of this model, the original Air Diver Turtle seems to perform much better, the Padi version I previously purchased, the movement was always out of sorts and not reliable. Where as this 777 has been spot on since it arrived, maybe I just got lucky and the Padi was a lemon 🍋

So does anyone else have a turtle they’d like to share and what experiences have you had with your own, good or bad 🐢

I probably cant pull off one of these since my wrist is not that big, but yours looks fantastic. I would love to own one never the less for this summer.

Seiko mini turtle my friend 💯 would be perfect for you. But you may be surprised at how wearable the original turtle is, if you get a chance you should try one on 👍

Can't believe I pull the trigger twice within this 2022 for this turtle

1st the King grenade SRPE05

And then this Save The Ocean version White Shark SRPD21

I can't stand the gorgeous dial hands bezel insert glass

And this is my very first experience to have the same model, as I can stand the covid but can't for this

It's interesting that when the SRP777 came out a few years ago, it was all anyone talked about for months, now we don't hear much about them.  I had one of the original STO models, 2018-ish, and it was great.  I'd get another but the prices keep creeping up, and it's hard for me to get my head around it not being a $225-$250 watch, anymore.

I hear you brother, I paid $249 AUD when they first came out and could probably flip mine for twice that amount now on eBay. Not that I’m going to, I love this watch, it’s just so comfortable to wear and the lume is amazing which is a bonus when you work night shifts like I do.

·

I should have kept mine; I probably sold it for $225.

Funny things about seiko size is I think 44/45 (sumo & turtle) is to big for my wrist... But in the end I did enjoy it there... No matter how size.. It always looks good.

I have a 16cm/6.3" wrist and I don't think it's too big. Lug-to-lug is 47.7mm. 👍

It’s that Seiko magic  again and the short lug to lug length that helps

I think no one talks about the Turtles (or the Samurai, or the Tuna, or the Sumo) because they are such stalwart known commodities for watch fans and have been for a very long time. I remember when the ”King” versions came out In 2020 there was an uptick in conversation, but that has since died down. I don’t take the lack of thread traffic as an indicator that it has fallen out of favor.

This is my Turtle. Save the Ocean v1. I love it, but I looked at over a dozen at Macys and Kohls before finding one that didn‘t have QC issues. But it’s SO worthwhile to find a winner.

This old 6309 is my favourite and most durable beater.  Lots of scratches mean lots of adventures, lots of work done, and lots of character.

Picked it up for $200 a few years back.

The short lugs make for a very comfortable fit on my skinny wrists, and the incredible value means I don't have to baby it.  And if anything bad happens there are lots of replacement parts available.

·

Had a 777 back in 2019.

Ignoring the QC issues. I found the design boring. It also managed to never sit comfortably. It was either too heavy or too tight. No matter what strap I had it on, it never felt right.

After 1 month of ownership, and 2 month at the service center, I sold it for almost half of what I paid.

Very nice 👍 it’s a bit of a hit and miss if you buy online, as far as QC issues go. Better if you can try before you buy as you did.

Great watch, love all the scratches and dents on a watch, shows the watch has been used for what it was intended for 👍

SRPE39, save the ocean, big but the dial makes all the difference… and lug to lug is around 47 or slightly less, so wears ok.

Stunning blue ❤

What else do you expect from Seiko, if it all lined up, it would then have to be a Citizen 🤣

·

I LOVE my king turtle save the ocean dark manta. The dial was always a winner for me but it never really settled on my 18cm wrist until I found the Crafter Blue fitted strap. The grey really works with the blue grey of the dial and the aquanaut style square print really sets off against the squares on the bezel. Because it is is fitted it also balances the heft of the watch and is so comfortable. I find I wear this more than any other watch in my collection. Absolutely love it.

I added a Turtle on our visit to Asheville, NC recently. That’s the good. The bad is they evidently didn’t regulate it as it ran way out of the published generous performance criteria. So back it went to Seiko US for servicing under warranty and now it runs real good. BTW, it is the US exclusive ice diver; you would think Seiko would assure those to be performing really well before shipping them out, especially at their price point. Almost caused me to swear off Seiko but I didn’t. In fact I acquired two Street Style Tuna’s after getting the Turtle back but those are solar.

Just got mine a few days ago! It was running pretty fast, maybe like +20 seconds a day, but I regulated it and it's only at like +5. Love the aesthetics and kinda want a Willard now. Lol.

Such a great watch, a true classic, super comfortable and versatile.

Wear it in good health mate 👍

My Turtle is probably overlooked as a daily wearer but whenever I need something tough and water resistant.. that's when it comes into it's own
