Opinions on a Submariner on a Rubber Strap

I was watching a Kevin O’Leary YouTube video the other day and he was talking about his signature red straps. He mentioned AP don’t do a rubber strap in red so he uses Rubber B. It got my thinking about getting a rubber strap for my Sub or adding a rubber strap diver like a Seiko.

I’m interested to hear others thoughts on wearing it on a rubber strap. Personally I think it’s a great look.

Then from a practical standpoint is it a pain to swap out the bracelet/put it back on. I have a Speedy I regularly change and I’m comfortable with that.

Image is of a Rubber B strap for reference.

Thanks!

I think it looks good, but I’m not the one buying the strap, so you should choose what you like.

I don't really like bracelets, so almost everything I have spends most of its life on rubber or fabric.

·

Looks good and I like the rubber straps on my Omegas and Seikos. Good luck with your choice.

At first I didn’t think rubber straps and divers went well but the more I saw them, the more they grew on me. I say go for it!

·

Big fan of divers on a rubber strap. To me, it's the most optimized version of a dive watch.

Rubber B, Everest, and Vanguard all make quality rubber straps. Looking to buy a Vanguard for my BB58 since it has a shorter version for small wrists.

I prefer Subs on bracelets, as I think they look weird in person on rubber, but that could only be me! 🤷🏽‍♂️

·

I admit to preferring a bracelet, but I’m absolute Tropic enjoyer for sure. I’m not very keen on the plain smooth modern straps and prefer the aforementioned Tropics and waffles and rubber rally style and my preferred materials are FKM or Caoutchouc. 😊 But hey, don’t listen to me, it’s your watch.

I rubber strap would look nice for sure. Keep in mind thats a Rolex you wearing if you gonna put a rubber strap put something that is good quality durable nothing cheesy or cheap.

·

Looks superb! Has to be a premium FKM vulcanised rubber like the Everest or Ruher B.

·

looking good on the pict, but i prefer bracelet. but if you like you should buy it. but please dont buy kevin o leary signature red rubber strap, it makes any of his watch uglier in my opinion 😂

Divers and Rubber straps are great! Here are my #tagheuer and #seiko divers on rubber straps.

Rubber B is amazing choice for #rolex. Great comfort and versatility without feeling cheap. Here’s my Polar and Panda with Rubber B strap.

I far prefer bracelets over straps, even rubber.  IMHO, metal just looks so much classier…

·

Don't forget rubber NATOs are awesome too

While I prefer my Sub on bracelet, it does look fun on fitted rubber. Here's mine on Everest 😎👍🏼

Just be careful taking the bracelet off as you'll need that tweezer tool. Oh and here's my BB GMT on Everest for added value hehe

Looks great! Thanks for sharing the photos too.

I have the spring tool version rather than the tweezers. Is it a pain to get the bracelet off for you and get back on with the tweezers tool?

I‘m not precious about getting a few scratches on the inside of the lugs but I don’t want to do any significant damage!!

My Sub is a 114060 for reference.

I agree. To change the look up from time to time with a rubber strap could be interesting though... if it’s not a pain to do or likely to cause damage changing it over.

We have the same Sub 👍🏼

You need to compress both sides of the spring bar at the same time so it's tough to do with just a regular tool hence the need for the tweezers.

I didn’t know that so thanks!

I think the straps are custom made specifically for him.  He did mention the name of a watchmaker, in one Video, who will not allow him to wear his custom strap.  Ok, they can’t stop him but they can stop taking his calls.

I think it looks amazing.  The Sub is such class though, you could wear it on a muddy old piece of mooring rope and it would still ooze superlative sophistication.
