New Watch: Apple Watch added ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I recently added a new watch I never thought I would. An Apple Watch Series 9 on a sports strap.

My wife, who also loves watches and has a nice collection, got one a while ago. Seeing how she used it convinced me it would be useful to add one too.

The fitness functionality (sleep, workouts, steps, HR, HRV, move reminders) are excellent. As someone that has some kind of exercise daily the workout tracker is very good. The sleep tracker has also been useful to know too.

Itโ€™s early days but Iโ€™ve taken to wearing the Apple Watch on WFH weekdays (most of my job is working from home) and while I sleep. Then I wear my Submariner, Speedmaster or Datejust if Iโ€™m out in the evening and weekends. I have an Explorer II but thatโ€™s being sold so Iโ€™ve stopped wearing it as much. Sometimes I double wrist too.

It will be interesting to see if my new wearing habits stay or change but Iโ€™m enjoying it at the moment.

Has anyone else been converted to smart watches yet? If yes, how does it fit in with your existing quartz, manual or automatic watches?

I use to wear an Apple Watch but I stopped wearing it due to all the notifications and the constant charging.

It is a great resource for tracking health and monitoring physical activities.

Enjoy!

I've never owned one and don't plan to start. Enjoy yours though!

Hi. Even though Iโ€™ve converted to wearing mechanical watches evenings and weekends I still wear an Apple Watch at work. I fillet a lot of fish brine it smoked it and the Apple Watch allows me to do this and respond to msg and calls without having to wash and dry hands and stop what Iโ€™m doing. Each watch serves a purpose.

I was an early adopter - getting the first Apple Watch when it first arrived in 2015. The only drawback right now is the battery life and itโ€™s longevity. As a consequence of hardware and software progress, software support for the watch will eventually end, roughly lasting 5-7 years. The watch will become another device like a phone/tablet/laptop etc that youโ€™ll want to upgrade.

However in the long run, itโ€™s still a lot cheaper than a luxury watch and it really is the ultimate tool watch with endless features and a variety of customisations - including notifications (you can switch it all off if you want) that work for you.

Itโ€™s stand out feature is health and fitness and if thatโ€™s a big thing for you then itโ€™s pretty awesome. I also double wrist.

I like the old world of watches for style and romance, but for function, smart watches supersede it but lack permanence and will eventually become another disposable item.
