Left handed crunchers

Does it make it harder when finding/purchasing watches?

Reply

Funnily enough I'm right handed and I find my only destro watch, a Citizen NY0040 with its crown on the left, very comfy because the crown doesn't dig into the back of my hand.

So would the same be true for left handed people and non-destro watches?

Huh never thought about that.

I wear on my right arm and like non lefty watches better

·

Righty here too, and if possible I will always get a destro watch. 👌🏻

Left handed, wear on right, the only time I noticed any kind of difference was when I briefly owned a vintage Hamilton Ventura.

Unless the case shape is extremely asymmetrical you will never notice, even with chronographs.

·

Very used to it being a "right-handed world" so not an issue...do enjoy my lefty Fugu though

As a left handed person I have no desire to get a watch with the crown on the left side. I like the crown facing away from my hand, so it doesn't did in. Plus it is always wise to take your watch off your wrist to wind it. There is less chance to damage the crown if you take to watch off your wrist first to wind it.

·

I like the crown on the opposite side where it doesn’t stab the back of my hand. I have the Citizen dive LH. It feels weird trying to wind it while it’s on the wrist for me.

But my grail is the Rolex GMT destro.

·

I just wear a watch on my left wrist. It's not like trying to use scissors or a can opener

Same here - tried on the right wrist and the watch felt weird!

·

The whole “crown digging into my hand” is the reason I wear my watches on my right wrist (right handed). If I were to get a destro watch, I’d have to wear it on my left wrist 😂

·

I just wear a right handed watch on my right wrist.

I never adjust the watch while wearing it so it makes zero difference wether I wear it on the right or left wrist.

·

Well, no. As a lefty who wears a watch on the right wrist, I don't own a left hand watch (or is it right hand; just what do you call a watch that's made for lefties to be worn on the right?), so I buy the same watches everyone else does. That said, I am curious to try a left hand watch (there, that's what I'm gonna call it), just to see how righties experience a watch and if it makes any difference.

I doubt it makes much difference, except on rare occasion, like with a G-Shock. Worn on the left, the light button, probably the most used, is in the most convenient upper right position. worn on the right, it's the most awkward position. I've often thought that Casio should make the buttons reversible. It's be easy enough to implement in the watch's firmware.

The only watch I know of that reverses not just the crown but the date is the left handed Rolex GMT. I did try it on once, but since it's a Rolex and I ain't gonna play any Rolex games, I likely will never own one.

As an aside, I figured out why the date is almost universally on the right side, which, as usual, facilitates life for righties. If the watch is under a sleeve on your left wrist, you only need to peek out the edge to see the date. If you wear it on the right, you have to uncover the whole watch. I can't say this bothers me much in practice.

As another aside, the biggest handedness related annoyance is the calipers I got to measure watches. It's designed so if you operate it with your right hand, the display faces you. If you try to use it with your left hand the display faces away, and you're forced into awkward contortions or trying to do it upside down, or something. And using calipers is fiddly enough that trying to use your non-dominant hand is a serious pain.

Fair, that was hyperbole. Don't let me make you self-conscious about your right hand watch wearing, haha.

It's all in the wrist action my friend! 😉🤣

·

I’m a lefty but still wear watches on my left hand. For some reason my parents told me that women wear their watch on the right wrist and men on the left. So, I always wore on my left. Not sure where they got this idea from. I do notice I scratch my clasps quite a lot as I’m using my left hand for most tasks

·

Haha I am a left handed and most like me even my mom wear a watch like everyone else with the crown on the right, I personally find left handed watches just patronizing. We don't change the time while the watch is on our wrist we take it off and we can use our right hands it's not left hand or no hand 🤣

·

No. I wear my watches on my left wrist anyways.

·

I like to wear my watch on my left hand and I am left handed :) so absolutely nil relevancy to me :)

·

My right wrist is bigger than my left from wearing a watch since I was a kid :) and if I put a watch on my right wrist it feels like wearing your underwear back to front 😂

·

Always been a mechanical hands on type, I’m pretty much ambidextrous, left handed to write but right handed to paint etc. Always wear my watch on the right, In a world that mostly caters to right handedness, means I’m less restricted when writing but more inclined to accidentally bash the watch when working or just going through life 😩. I purchased a Tudor Pelagos LHD a couple of years ago, it’s pretty much my daily unless I’m wearing my Apple Watch (🤭), I do have a 116600 tucked away for special occasions 😎, anyway, I love the Pelagos LHD for what it is but cant say it really is a benefit to me being LHD. Conversely not keen on the look of the Rolex GMT Master ‘Sprite’ 🤷🏻‍♂️, maybe because the GMT Master in general is so iconic? Certainly, I regret selling my black ceramic when prices started dropping this year 🤦🏻‍♂️. The Sprite just looks upside down to my eyes 🙃. Sorry what was the question 😂

Can always go crown up top!

I am left handed, buy normal style watches and wear on left hand. At this stage wouldn't feel right to change

·

Not an issue.

Same here. Never gave the crown a chance to dig into my right hand

Yup

·

Am left handed but wear my watch on my left hand. If I'm going to be writing at a desk all day I just take the watch off

·

As a lefty I always wear my watches on my left amd I can’t imagine to change. Even when I try it on ky right hand it feels strange.
