Opinion on digital watches?

I personally think that they do have a place but analog is just better.

Digital, sure. Apple watch, no. I don’t need a phone on my wrist. I’m not Dick Tracy.

Depends on the application, digital watches are generally cheap and cheerful, as well as durable. I wore one for many years before bothering to buy an analog watch.

I have a Garmin Marq Captain it’s incredible when I’m offshore in tournaments. So for me they have their purpose.

Man, your expedition brings back memories. I had a few growing up. The legibility is second to none. They've long been lost or broken.

To answer the original question. Digital watches are perfectly fine. I have a couple myself. I wear them when the going gets really tough. Or every day at work.

I don't mind slight integration or Bluetooth connectivity. Think G-Shock. But a full on Apple watch or smart watch, it's not for me. I already feel leashed with a cellphone in my pocket. I don't need to be reminded everytime I look at my watch. I get that some people can't live without. I can appreciate the technology. But programmed obsolescence is a thing. How many of these Apple watches are in a drawer and won't see the light of day again?

I picked it up not long ago from a Canadian AD, they aren't listed on the Timex.ca site, but somehow the AD keeps getting them.

I don't like the digital readout. That's why my beater Expedition has one, so that I can't get attached to it and won't shed a tear if/when it bites the dust.

·

I have a digital, mostly use it for work - electrician, handy for seeing messages without pulling out the phone. Use a compass for quoting for solar work etc. I still put a mechanical on as soon as I get home!

In Ottawa? Timex are hard to find in my neck of the woods. Wally World and The Bay has a small selection. But not all models. It's hit or miss.

Rideau has some nice ADs on the second floor near where Nordstrom used to be. Birks has quite a few and I think it's Monaco that has the Omega store next door?

I got it from Halifax Watch, I ordered it online. I also picked up one on a bracelet from Amazon.

Timex.ca has green and blue '90s throwbacks as well.

The Smart watch question is interesting. I own an Apple Watch, but it’s more of a tool than a watch. The health metrics are great, and running or workouts with it (and some AirPods) makes the miles fly by. O2 sensors, heart rate, intervals, lap and distances, maps with GPS, so many more…

and I’m pretty sure you can use it to tell the time.

·

Smart watches and mechanical watches are completely different, though smart watches have their place.

I prefer analogue dials but I have a few digital, I even have a smartwatch that I use as a dress watch. No one can say what's better, it's a preference thing so everyone is correct in a way.
