Smells like Omega Spirit??

I walked into the Omega boutique and found something I never noticed before.

An Aqua Terra Cologne.

It smelled nice and yet was not really sure how that cologne was linking to the Omega watch experience.

(Maybe aimed to sniff out watch nerds a mile away???haha )

Do you think it’s a yes or no move for omega to make cologne? Let me hear your thoughts in the comments below😌

how does it smell?

If it makes them money, they're happy.

·

I bet it smells like Snoopy's ass

·

My wife got me some 'whisky & water' shower gel for Christmas. It smells like my local Watches of Switzerland.

·

If it smells alright and it’s not too expensive but you can’t go wrong with a bottle of this

how does it smell?

Like Eau de VIlle

·

Do they do a Moon edition that smells like dust and rocket fuel?

Omega isn’t a watchmaker. It’s a fashion brand that makes cologne, gift shop merch and bracelets, yet sometimes makes Omega branded watches.

Occasionally they will put their brand name on souvenir cartoon dog watches and cheap plastic disposable watches. They also have a line of spy movie memorabilia. Please exit the theatre through the gift shop for your token Omega Bond souvenir.

Please spend your money with a serious watchmaker. Not the Omega fashion brand.

GADA cologne 👍

Typical fashion house strategy. I can’t afford dropping $1k in a Hermés belt, but I can afford dropping around $100 in their Terre d’Hermés perfume which is going to last for a couple of years. That’s how they get you to buy their products with their name, over which the profit margins are huge while still keeping you “close” and desiring to buy their “real” stuff. Still, I own that perfume because I really like it.

But I reject this strategy from watch brands. You’re not fashion houses, you’re watchmakers. Save your money and buy from a watchmaker instead.

I'll have to check it out.

Wearing some Mont Blanc smelly stuff today. Mrs seems to like it. 👍🏻

Just positioning Omega in the luxury good space. Cologne, wallets, bracelets/torcs, and other niche goods are easy to pair with watches as part of the brand experience. Does it work? Probably for the affluent regular Omega shopper, for us watch collectors, likely less so.

I might buy the cologne though, if I liked it. I have high quality product preferences for things like wallets (Solovair) and jewelry though.

I still wear Brut. 😪

This is probably just water that smells of land..

I pass on that. I am in there for the hardware.

These are the hot takes I am here for

It's the smell of old money because they have the most disposable income.

·

I’m an Omega fanboy, but this is a bit disappointing. Stick with timepieces. Just my thoughts

·

This is the cologne I wear when I want to go anywhere and do anything.

how does it smell?

Just like any, yet not too pungent, so I think it would be easy to use for any :) but not sure if it’s an Aqua Terra for sure 😂

Thank you for the super interesting feed back!

Wanted to hear what you think about the Moon Watch, and any watch brand that you’d think would not be fashion brand among like Rolex, Tudor, etc.😌

Nice Black Bay GMT!! 🤩

Thanks it’s a great watch

Not that I'll buy it, but how much is it? I know that Rolex also has a cologne. and it sells for $300.

I mean, I wouldn't buy a suit from a bricklayer because those are different fields and specialties. I'm sure they have some person somewhere in the factory that has a doctorate in smelling things, but I'll stick with my Joop and English Leather.

It reminds me of car brands doing the same thing. What's the objective of a Ford Mustang cologne? Is it supposed to smell like a Mustang, i.e. (usually) like sweat and booze? I naturally smell like that, so it's a pass from me. Is it supposed to complement the looks of a Mustang? I don't know, but those colognes are usually bought by people who don't even own the associated product. How many Mustang owners buy the matching cologne? I don't know, probably not too many. I think the same is true for that AT cologne.

I'm going to get a doctorate in smelling things and release my own damn line of cologne because everyone is doing it these days. The Smells of Watchmaking, featuring hit scents like "a whiff of Moebius high viscosity clock oil," "benzene that I use to clean the parts and stuff," and "silver polish because I dinged my acrylic crystal again."

Put simply, skyrocketing prices have a cost by destroying culture. When people who really love horology starts being priced out and becomes the downmarket, the upmarket ends up being this — waiting lists, fluff, and wealth signaling. Eventually it just becomes a signaling playground for the rich.

Welcome to “gentrification”. They don’t care what you love or hate. Someone with more money than you has moved in, and it’s their tastes that matter now.
