Tritium, will it kill me?

No, but it can hurt me in large ammounts. But that's when in contact with it directly, when in these little ampules, no. Even if they broke, they wouldn't cause noticable damage. So, why not wear it?! Our fascination with glowy quirky stuff dates back to the previous century with radium, applied in the form of paint to the hands and indizies.

Producing its natural glow, due to it's instability, just like tritium (an isotope of hydrogen). And radium actually was dangerous. But the newer watches utilising new tech, by containing tritium inside them. The molecules will decompose in about 25 years, giving out light ofcourse. I'd say most famous tritium use in the last years is definetly Ball with their multicolored tritium tube inserts making a gorgeous sight on your wrist. How cool is that?

That was tritium! Let me hear your thoughts on your tritium watch, or them in general.

Thanks for reading! Cheers.

That scares me witless, I have no idea how people can do that! 😲

Yes - I am claustrophobic and get nervous if I get stuck in a lift!

Not sure that a tritium glow would be much comfort in a deep, damp, dark narrow cave with millions of tonnes of rock pressing in on me.

Give me skydiving any day!

A slight correction; The radioactive material itself doesn't glow. The particles emitted strike a radio-luminescent zinc-sulphide phosphor that glows. This is why old dials no longer glow even though Radium has a half-life of 1600 years; The phosphor has broken down.

Radium, unlike Tritium, is actually self-luminescent (or, rather, is so radioactive it ionizes the oxygen in the air around it which glows) but to see that you'd need a lot more than would be on a watch dial. This is not recommended for the health of the viewer and all living things nearby.

It might not kill you, but...

I liked mine, but the T-25 was so faint….. so I ended up selling it

·

You probably shouldn't eat it though

·

I have a few watches with tritium dials and absolutely love em…….

The down side is that on some….. the lume is SO bright, I’m banned from wearing them overnight as they keep my wife awake….. 🤷🏼‍♂️🫣😂🤣

(My Nite Watches Hawk… tritium dial 🔥🔥)

Tririum makes all other lumes a joke.

Probably do you a lot less harm than the smart watches people have on their wrists or the phones they keep in their pockets all day

The radiation without mobile data is harmfull itself. I've read about a study that said and proved how if you move phone a few meters away from yourself, the radiation won't affect you. Worst are definetly Bluetooth headphones, earbuds.... ect. The comunication waves between them are literally going through your head!

Those are all non-ionizing em. All it does is warm things up.

Thanks so much for correcting me! Adding that new knowledge to the collection 😎

I'm a physicist. Happy to help.

Love tritium, you'll live. We spend half the day with a phone next to their heads while being slowly baked on a cellular level...lol! Don't think the watch is going to hurt much.
