Does Grand Seiko hold its value well?

Does Grand Seiko hold its value well compared to its competitor? For example, like Tudor, Rolex and omega?

Almost nothing in the watch world holds its value well. Look at some Watchcharts videos and they break it down.

Buying a used watch of the big established Swiss brands will hold value longer but the Japanese and other European brands lose a lot of value fast....unless its Swiss powered. Don't forget everything loses the profit value after it leaves the AD unless its one of the hot offerings like Rolex or other luxury low production watches.

I would take value retention with a grain of salt. The market is inflated and I would say fake thanks to flippers and the grey market. Does that mean a Daytona would loose value from MSRP? I think Rolex would rather throw them away 😂.

Always expect to lose or break even. In my experience even with Tudor and Omega on the second hand Market you will lose 1,000-1500 in trade value.

·

A 30% drop after a few months of use is not uncommon.

Hate to break it to you, if you don’t already know, watches don’t hold value. Yes, there are a few pieces that trade at a premium but 99% will not hold its value.

Depends on the models for all brands, plenty of cheap rolex Airkings, tudor rangers, 1926, royals, omega planet oceans, quartz aqua terra's

GS snowflake pretty mutch selling used for new price, limted edition seiko go for way over retail

So very much depends on the model for All brands

I’d expect to loose about the same on a gs and omega and Tudor Rolex are still doing better in most models but some are now taking a small hit below msrp but I’d still say that that they are the exception and will retain more value as a whole.

Buy good cheap pre owned can't go wrong, same applies to all personal preference AD not for me neithers retail anything over 3000 search pre owned, unless its hype piece but you wouldn't know initially buying so wouldn't count on them, spring drive special dials can hold and some cases go up but its gambling betting on that 👌

·

I really think it depends which GS you buy. Same is true for the Omega, Tudor and believe it or not Rolex.

·

Watches are not investment items.

·

Tudor and Omega don’t hold value the same as Rolex does currently so even that’s not really a good range of comparison. Plus, there’s a ton that goes into this calculation. I don’t believe there’ll ever be a watch crash because there’s intrinsic value but I also don’t know that Rolex et al will continue to hold as much value.

Its different for everyone. I never buy a watch thinking I will sell it later, why buy it in the first place ! Its the oxymoron of the watch world. Of course we all get a watch that doesn't take, as it were. I have sold the very occasional watch like this and if I get back 50% I would be happy.

·

The thing with Grand Seiko is, you will love it so much you would never sell it anyway.

In a pinch, Swiss brands can be traded for goods and services in most of the world. That says something. The value of the watch is only as good as it's last sale. And most sales of vintage or just slightly used Swiss watches hold up better than others.
