Yah, Invicta has been known to make some nice homage pieces and some of their designs are really nice, like my automatic Captain America watch in Diablo case by Invicta.
For the money, not the MSRP, they’re OK, especially on clearance. But in no way are we talking about anything that approaches haute horology.
One of the reasons they are not loved is history. Invicta was a true manufacturer before the quartz crisis, made movrments and watches that had a bit of respect, but like so many concerns, they did not survive. Enter early 1990’s and a young entrepreneur buys the name/company then revives the brand with cheap watches sourced primarily from China. So a well respected brand was reconstituted as a cheep brand. Strike one. Add in that Invicta still claims that heritage yet their offerings pale in comparison to the original thus PO’ing collectors in the know. I think those are the two primary reason for the “hate”.
Of course ugly watches do not help. 😉
