Overrated/Useless Feature

In your opinion, what is the most overrated/useless feature in watches?

Pictured is my Seiko King Turtle Save the Oceans. Love this watch, BUT why the cyclops?!

I frequently forget what day it is.

I frequently forget what day of the week it is...

But I can usually remember what month it is!!! Sorry Patek!

That’s just showing off. They do it cause they can and people will buy it hah.

Chronograph. The only time I start it is when I want to see how it works through the crystal back.

I hate cyclops too but date without cyclops is useless for my aging eyes😂

·

Gyrotourbillon and tourbillon

·

May be controversial but I have never wanted or have a need for a GMT hand or a watch with an inner rotating bezel, while were at it "hardened mineral crystal"...is that a feature?

Helium escape valve.

Helium escape valve.

Oh? And risk a life-threatening accumulation of escape gas??

I am prepared to take this risk.

Funnily enough I didn't realise we'd got as far as May, it was the Bank Holiday that reminded me.

Time travel ?

I have it...and YES f*cking hate that cyclop 😂

·

A tiny fraction of what it cost to have Patek display the month but clearly every bit it's equal in uselessness.

  • This is controversial, but most ( not all ) do not need or warrant display case-back , FP Journe , ALS yes for sure Patek yes , but really mostly no . On a dive watch definitely no !

·

I'll also go with GMT. I can do simple addition and subtraction. I don't own one and I have none on my extensive wishlist.

The wart is pretty useless too, it's a dreadful solution. Basically admitting that the date is too small. Just make it bigger rather than have that ugly blob on top of the crystal.

Diving bezel, I've never used it to time anything. It's just a bit of decoration.

I often use the chrono, but the tachymeter is also just decorative.

Divers extensions.

While I think the real answer is the HEV. It was already said and while not useful for 999999 out of 1000000 of us I guess is useful for that one person that one time.

The cyclops while ugly Is super useful as your eyes get older and they’re usually used when the date window is tiny.

my submission: the tachymeter. Who is actually going to measure land speed in this day and age using that function on the smallest possible scale with which to read it?

It just means you need to drive faster to take advantage of the tachometer.

24 hour / Day & Night sub dials. That's what windows in buildings are for.

Cyclops date, helium escape valve

·

Chrono. I own one and never remember to stop it. Timing some random job? 2 days later I wonder why the timer is running…. Use it to time my tea? 45 minutes later remember I was making tea…. I really need a parking meter timer.

Agree with both. They’re like vestigial organs…

Ah, that makes sense. Chronograph is both a blessing and a curse.

·

The 24 hour subdial. I mean it looks cool but do I really ever use it? Nope. That's what the main hands are for, also they are easier to see.

·

Helium valve, decompression bezel, regatta countdown timer. The first one barely anyone ever needs, and those who could use it wear a dive computer rather than a watch. Same goes for the decompression bezel. And most people who buy watches with a regatta timer most likely don't even know their way around a sailboat.

Yes! Especially if the watch is made by a very popular Japanese company, with uninteresting movements, and already too-thick cases.

When you are in arctic region with jet lag in summer or winter, when you can’t tell if it’s 8am or 8pm😁
