Next watch

Hi all, I am not that close of buying a new watch yet; however, I wanted to try this. I am getting another watch, there are so far, 4 strong contenders, I need some help from the community. I will try this exercise without providing any context from my collection. Contenders are...

Lol, I accidentally voted for the GS. I was deciding between that and the Pelagos. I find these things really difficult as I always want more information. That said, I’m guessing the community will go with the HS, and I probably agree. Personally, I’m closer to buying the Tudor, but the GS has so much going for it. In the end, this is a great problem to have, good luck.

3 of those choices are big overly expensive watches where the Tudor has the best finish and a bullet proof movement for a reasonable price. Only watch nerds would ever recognize the brands on the others.

If you don't have a Grand Seiko in your collection and have the money and opportunity to get one? I say go for the GS.

If you do, or aren't in the position to have them sent to Japan to be serviced...

Just buy something that a watchmaker knows how to repair (this is after warranty, of course).

That's a tough choice. The Tudor's are both nice, but I'm leaning to the Pelagos out of those two. I would buy that Seamaster in a heartbeat if I had the cash, but that Grand Seiko is just gorgeous. The reality is I wouldn't wear it anywhere near as much as the other 3 sportier models, so that would bring me back to the Seamaster again. (Black on a rubber strap also looks killer as well). So I'm locking in 'C'.

Its the New Pelagos for me. If they Bring out a Blue version it may well be my next purchase also. Nothing against the others you are considering Jorge but as said before very hard to look by Tudor for Value at the moment.

So without context, I'm voting based on one everyday watch.     While the GS is beautiful and wears very well, it's only splash resistant so wouldn't choose it unless I knew there was something to compliment it.

So then the Omega Semester 300 and Tudor Pelagos 39.      Between the two, for me it's the Tudor hands down (Provided you can get one).  I've tried one on twice now.    Can work in almost any situation, I prefer the look over the Seamaster, and once you've worn a titanium watch ... you can't go back to steel.  :)

I'd buy the Seamaster first, but keep the others on your wish-list, because one watch is never enough!!!. Then probably go for the Pelagos (you should also consider the Black bay, GMT or Diver, both are brilliant). Ive never owned a GS, so cant really comment, however the SBGA461 is on my wish-list. I always seem to lean towards divers!

Happy buying, once you start, its hard to stop!!

Totally agree… when the 39 Pelagos came out I called the ID and I was “assigned” one, and I had to let it go. But I did have the chance to try it on and play with it, and for me it’s just perfect! size, weight, bracelet, looks… I like it all! This poll was more of a fun exercise, but I also lean towards the Pelagos, I think is a lot of value for the money. On the other hand, the Seamaster is crazy cool, the dial is mind-blowing, the fit... the bracelet looks horrible though, but in rubber and/or nato looks awesome too.

cheers

I’d buy the one that fits most comfortably on your wrist.

I suppose it comes down to which do you like most, your options would suggest a diver. Also for movements is a gmt something you will use or is collection missing one. Either way some really good options 👍

·

Definitely need to know the rest of your collection, what you do for a living and what you do in your free time to give a proper recommendation.

Work in an office and have another watch to beat up on? Grand Seiko.

Only watch and don’t necessarily work in an office? Pelagos 39.

Just want the best specs per dollar of these options? Omega.

·

Dang, clicked on the Pelagos by mistake, and it's certainly not the one I'd choose. It's way to easy to vote for the wrong thing, and you can't change your vote.

·

Seamaster for me and it’s not close.

·

I voted for the Pelagos 39 bit for me it’s a toss up between the Pelagius 39 & the GS SBGM221 the GS GMT on a steel bracelet would be my personal choice but based on the choices you gave I’d choose between the Tudor & the grand seiko

I have owned the Omega SM300m and now the Pelagos 39. If you are looking for the "better" watch between these two, the SM300m wins in my opinion. For me though I did struggle with the non tapering bracelet and the look of the helium valve, which eventually it is why I let it go. I am not certain however that this Pelagos 39 is all I had hoped for. For starters the hands lume is different than the plot lume. Sure small detail but for 5k this should not be overlooked. The bracelet edges are very sharp, almost as if not enough attention to finishing was given. The bezel action is terrible. No other way to say it. Lastly there is no hardening coat on the titanium so be ready for scratches by simply looking at it the wrong way. However it is an amazing size for me, I love the colour of the titanium, and for once the micro adjustment works flawlessly. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the other 2 options. I hope that helps.
