I have been a fan since I got my first automatic at age 13. It was a Bulova I got as a gift.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
My first watch was a Bulova. The first watch I bought was an Armitron digital, which I still own.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
My Armitron was bought in 1979 from service merchandise. That watch traveled all over Europe with me and was my daily alarm until 1987. I stopped wearing it after I looked at it too often while I was in a court hearing and the judge felt insulted. He stopped the hearing, mid-sentence and asked me if I had somewhere else to be. No more watches worn to court after that.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
I think it is honest to ask yourself, why am I buying this. Is it a tool, jewelry, or a statement piece?
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
I like mechanical watches that are thin. quartz has better choices for that but may have other drawbacks. I find that my watches are a compromise between form and function. I have yet to find a no compromise solution.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
I don't think I want to own a grail as it would only disappoint me. a dream fulfilled is a dream lost.
