Those that have seen some of my past WRUW posts know that two of the never leaving members of my collection is a pair of Breitlings I inherited from my father, a mid 90s Chronospace and a very early 2000s Aerospace - two Ana-Digi pieces I grew to love.
That being said, I had heard tales several decades ago of my dad's first real watch, that he got when he was 15 or 16 as a gift from his grandfather for getting, for getting into the equivalent of the last stage of highschool at the time.
Apparently then he had come to a watch shop in Lisbon, and spent a morning there with gis granddad and came out with his first "proper watch" - a Bretiling.
Story aside, I had never seen the watch - Dad never wore it as it was handwound - until yesterday when enquiring mom about it and her sourcing it from a box in the nightstand.
Low and behold, a tonneau shape Top Time, with a reverse panda dial on a gold plated case!
Not being a gold watch man myself, can't see me having this one in the daily rotation, but will for sure have it as a forever part of the collection. It still ticks away when wound, but the crown feels a bit cracly, so will have to send it out for a long awaited service.
Have yet to do a proper investigation on the piece, but ir seems it might have been built in 1967, and to have an ETA movement inside.
Will have fun investigating a bit more on this one. Breitling trifecta - done!

That's an amazing watch fella, timeless and classy.
Your dad had great taste.
Thanks so much Buddy!
Miguel love hearing about your Father. It's a beautiful watch that you can treasure forever.
Don't shy away from gold, that's a wonderful watch! Very cool. 😎
I have shared a few of my older Breitling watches with my 2 daughters and one G-Shock addict son in law, so in time I expect they might recall their dad as a Breitling guy also. That is a gorgeous watch, definitely deserves a full service. In fact most of my extended family members are connected to the Breitling brand, a harmless affectation that I first developed with a Chronomat in 1989. Foolishly used it as part of a trade towards a perpetual calendar Moonphase watch many years ago.
Thanks so much Buddy!
No worries.
my grandfather left me a dressy longines tank. I always wear it when there are weddings, birthdays or big events. It's like he's there with me. I suggest you do the same.
Absolutely seldom seen breitling .. at least from me
I'm not fascinated by Breitling watches, but this time I had to zoom in and admire. Wow.
Amazing story, and an amazing watch! Wear it proudly.
Stunning!!
Rad watch, great story, I’d become a gold man, it’s a killer piece.

By God you are!!!! 😁I
That is a real looker👌 My prediction is that after the service your Breitling will be in your rotation getting a generous amount of wristtime.

Thanks a lot Per, only time will tell. Will have some time to think about that noting the average service time nowadays..

Will do my very best Colin! Thanks a lot!
Wow I hadn't seen this post of yours Miguel! What a classy, elegant B 👌
Man I hope you manage to service it and keep it with you for many years ahead. For me apart from being a watch with emotional value it is a very sick and stylish timepiece. I wish someday you change your mind about golden watches so you can fully enjoy this beautiful retro gem! Thanks for sharing 🙏

Thanks so much Kostas! Indeed only time will tell if I change my taste on gold watches, but indeed yet another emotion-ridden piece of the collection. The watch is not going anywhere after service, so will have time to make my mind up!
