SWATCH PAIN has arrived... underwhelmed

At the Swatch boutique in Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur.

First thoughts: they're a bit big and chunky. Not the greatest look in bioceramic. It's a bit like if Duplo made a watch. I did get a Moonswatch, but I think I'll pass on this collaboration....

Hey at least the strap looks better than the moonswatch one! But I think it would still need swapping out to make it less chunky. Thanks for the live pics

I want my swatch x royal oak!!!

I want my swatch x royal oak!!!

That would be 🔥full bio ceramic bracelet too lol

·

This collab is a hard Pas for me

Why are they trying to ruin another watch. I can’t look at Omega the same way anymore since the swatch-omegas came out.

·

Is the display box made up of old fishing nets too? All smells like money to me....and a bit fishy?😕

That would break so fast haha.

I wonder if people would bat an eye if there wasn't all the teaser-trailers, 'leaked' pictures, super secret yellow briefcase in a vacuum sealed glass case, cool sexy maps etc. etc.

Are these watches even serviceable do we know?

The thing I do like is the case back.

I don't think they're serviceable. I believe they don't even have hacking seconds!

But you can bet the scalpers will be out in force. When the moonswatch came out scalpers had hired migrant labourers to queue from 10pm the previous night in KL 😩

May be ? The moon swatch had a great story behiend paying tribute to the solar system and the respected planets. I feel the moon swatch was more about story telling, sort of how Nike does it with thier collabs. Which happened to introduce a lot of young people to omega and the Speedmaster. I don’t believe the goal was to pump up purchases of the actual moonwatch. This collab on the other hand seems that the story came second and pushing the visability of Blacpain to the layperson was first priority. That’s the main reason I do not think this will be nearly as successful or craze worthy.

And wait until the layperson looks up Blancpain and sees what a real one costs.🤯

Just check ebay, they were going for £1500 some of them, the cheapest was around £900

·

I like the new Fifty Fathoms. But 400 quid

is unreasonable

·

This doesn't introduce anybody to Blancpain as a brand. If your shopping for plastic swatches I bet you shit your pants when you see the price of a Blancpain. I will never understand the collaborations. At least omega is a somewhat obtainable brand. But the gap between these two products is so massive that it makes absolutely no sense at all.

Plus someone would have to dive head first into the hobby to even start caring about blancplain totally agree my friend,I only appreciate there heritage wouldn't pay there prices for there designs

·

Such a bummer they’re not doing black bio ceramic with a black bezel insert…

·

I don’t hate it, not my cup of tea. To scratch my Blancpain fifty fathoms itch I got a spinnaker which I personally prefer over a bioceramic product

·

The CW Aquitaine does a very good impression of a Fifty Fathoms, and for not a whole lot more than the Swatch really. Just a thought.

Ignore the Swatch PAIN, how about the real thing ?

1953 US Navy Mil-Spec reissue, 40mm with humidity indicator

If you accept the position that Swatch helped get Swiss watchmaking industry through the quartz crisis, they’re doing what they’re good at — creating fads. Less about the product itself and more about the buzz and desire they can create.

Anyone bother to count the number of posts about this in the past several days? 🤔😉

·

I think McDonald's X Swatch collab should be the next move.

·

These should be $199, with a warranty of two years. Beyond that, the non-serviceable movement should be replaceable for say $30 😜

@NotThatNeil, totally agree and in our consumerist society, it’s all about creating those trends and Swatch is the reigning champ. I have actually liked Swatch for the ability to tryout different looks without breaking the bank or feeling bad if I break one. I have Omegas, Swatches and the collaboration and thoroughly enjoy them all.

That being said, the execution on this release does seem like a bit of a miss. It does look more childlike, like they pulled directly from the Flik Flak color palette. The MoonSwatch design and color palette fell more in line with what you’d expect from Omega, granted with a couple of exceptions. These are not what I think of when I hear the Blancpain name, quite the opposite. I love well thought out quirky designs or different color combinations, (e.g.,Mr Jones Watches) but these seem to be thrown together with little effort other than the hype machine. But as you stated, we on this forum and by look of most of the news outlets, everyone else is talking about them. Swatch again, is king of trending watches or at least, watch stories!

·

I’m gonna pass cause of the price.

·

@SBKualaLumpur what variants of the moonswatch do they still have in the mid valley store?

For that to happen AP must first become part of the Swatch group…
