Is anyone else paranoid about not scratching their watches?

Yes, I know what everyone says - don't baby your watches, scratches and dings are part of your history, of bonding with them. Well, up to a point, Lord Copper.

I don't mind my Tag quartz getting scratched up. It's my daily beater as it was my one watch for quite a while, before I got into this hobby, the bracelet got scratched early on in the swimming pool. Inevitable. And I use it every day for exercise.

I don't baby my Pelagos, which I wear most of the rest of the time. It's a robust watch, but the marks are barely visible on the titanium bracelet, and still none on the crystal or watch head. I hope to keep it that way, although I won't take it off while doing everyday tasks.

But would I care about scratching up my GS or my Moonswatch or Laco Augsburg and the rest? Hell, yes!

One watch can take all the abuse. The others - I really don't want to mar them. Some are expensive, some more affordable. I'd like to take good care of them all. Am I alone in this? I wouldn't think so. Let me know your opinion crunchers...

I have OCD so yes I always worry lol

I don’t wear my Moonswatch at all. It’s just for display. Maybe in the yard. That thing is just too delicate.

I have a GS Shunbun that is in regular rotation. I don’t worry too much about it. I’ll never touch the actual watch bc there is too much to mess up with the brushed vs zaratsu but I’ve periodically rubbed the bracelet clean and clear of any scratches with a satin finish and gentle abrasive polish cloths after the clasp takes one too many lap top hits. Looks like new.

I really don’t care about scratches. I have never gotten a really bad one jsut a few little ones and I wear my watches for all types of crazy activites

lucky you!

I used to be totally paranoid about getting my Santos Galbee scratched, especially around the bezel & case. Then I learned how to get rid of the scratches without the assistance of Cartier & things changed.

There's really no amount of damage to your watch in terms of scratches that can't be repaired. Most can be removed yourself with the right approach & products.

·

I have made peace with scratches because the cost of avoiding them was not fully enjoying the watches.

·

Nobody wants scratches... They happen so I'm not unnecessarily careless and I try to take care of them. Since they are going to happen, I try to just accept it. Not going to let my enjoyment of the watch be limited because I'm afraid to scratch it. Why have it if I would?

·

Yea, always try to keep them as new looking for as long as possible

·

Nope, this is suppost to be fun mate 🤷🏻‍♂️

·

Best defence against scratches is simply not to wear them.

Or bubblewrap.

My GS spring drive looks like new too - because i really only wear it under a long shirt sleeve. That means maybe a month a year. I don't have a problem with that. It's my dress watch, and I keep it pristine

I’ve sort of acquired a sonar shield around my left wrist 😁

It’s a daily for me but still looks great. The titanium really helps minimize how any scratches look and the raised box sapphire crystal probably helps.

·

I would probably upset if I put a huge gauge in the bezel of one of my more expensive watches but I don’t let it stop me from wearing them.

·

It’s the bracelet that takes the beating. Change the band to leather or rubber and use the bracelet for special occasions if you want to wear the watch but hesitate to do so because of scratches.

Use this on them before they get scratched, and after to Diminish the appearance of, and small Scuffs and scratches will eventually disappear with regular use.

·

I daily a Tudor north flag now. It’s a bit beat up but I still think it looks great! I do try to baby my zeniths though.

·

Cars are “meant to be driven”. Doesnt mean I love door dings and scratches on the body.

·

Would I prefer my watches without scratches? Of course. Do scratches bother me? Nope, not at all. I bought my watches to wear them and scratches are inevitable if you’re actually wearing your watch. If they really bother you, you can always have it polished to bring it back closer to new.

·

Honestly I feel deeply hurt every time I put a scratch or ding on any of my watches. But it's the 1st one that stings the most!😂

·

Always paranoid unless the watch is bought to suffer abuse. Will always be mindful of potential scratch or knock incidents

Oh, thank you!

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only guy on watch crunch who doesn’t care a lick if I scratch my watches. I like patina! Is that so bad? My SMP bracelet has been through the mill countless construction sites. Lived in a job site trailer for most of a year.

It sucks to hit your watches, but it is inevitable. I embrace the scratches that I put on them and consider them battle scars. I’m pretty sure most of our watches can outlive us many times over, so it should be ok not to baby them.

"I embrace the scratches that I put on them and consider them battle scars."

Funny, that's how I've treated my own body. But I'd never do that to one of my watches. 😂

·

Minor scratches accumulated from daily wear I can just about take. To me the scratches that hurt are the ones that were because of some specific incident or accident on my part, especially if I should have known better and it could have been avoided

·

@SBKualaLumpur I understand the struggle man! I also would love to have a (luxury) watch that I can were no matter what I'm doing. I'm a volunteer firefighter and I am searching for my next watch. But I want something that I don't have to baby. I don't want to take my watch off when I'm called into action. But... can I do it when I finaly have the watch on my wrist? I don't know...

I probably will grab my G-shock? 😕

·

With ya bro.

I’ve given up on scratches for this guy
