Leather on a dive watch?

The weather is getting colder and we won’t be getting in the water anytime soon. So that being said, does a leather strap belong on a dive watch?

Hell yes - make that diver pretty and proud with a leather strap! The only action my dive watches ever get is 2 feet into a Costco Doritos bag 🤙😝

I've made one exception personally to this, Zane's Handmade Straps. Raider approved, and he personally wears his daily, regardless of activity.

Single Pass style, horse butt leather.

I'm not that bold, but the two I have I wear on my Nodus x AWWC.

(Other strap pictured is a rubber single pass, the other leather isnt in pic FYI.)

A "dive watch" is not necessarily just for diving nor is it impossible to change straps in quite literally a minute of time

Please, please stop acting like we wear them because we secretly want to be hardcore divers and are cosplaying. I use the bezel to time stuff all the time, from workouts to laundry to waiting 15min after my flu/covid shot. I like how rugged it is, how it can withstand cold temps. I like the asthetics.

I have zero desire to put on scuba gear and take my watch to depth, but I'm glad I don't worry if I jump into an alpine lake after a long hike

Although I'm just a desk diver like most people, I appreciate the peace of mind of wearing a waterproof watch when I'm going out in the rain or washing my hands and splashing water around. Therefore I tend to keep my dive watches on the bracelet, rubber, or NATO to fit with that theme.

Sometimes it's nice to not have to be so cautious around water, unlike my dressy or vintage pieces that demand a bit more care.

Yep!

A cow would look daft in my leather jacket🤣

Where is C? C. It should be on Rubber or NATO if not metal

Very true. Rubber and nato are great, dvd very popular options.

·

Of course. Swap straps come summer.

"Diver" is more a marketing category than a use-case. It's still just a fashion accessory and 100% you should pair it with whatever strap makes it look and feel great on your wrist.

A dive watch is like a sports car.

There's roots in racing but it's used for normal things.

Wear it with leather sometimes

Nice to see another dude from AWWC here 👊🏻. +1 for Zane’s Handmade, great straps that look awesome especially when nice and broken in

If you have a leather strap you think would look good on one of your divers and won't be damaging the strap with your planned activities, I say go for it. Personally, I think a lot of divers can work on leather, especially less dressy leather. The only diver I wear is my GSAR, and it's not going to look good on a shiny leather dress strap in my opinion. However, it would probably look pretty neat on a weathered leather NATO.

That’s a valid point there! The tool watch aspect of it doesn’t really match with shiny leather as much. I hadn’t really thought of it like that.

·

I think they work on vintage, neo-vintage or vintage styled divers

·

Definitely looks amazing as long as its the right kind of leather strap - Since divers have thick dials its better to choose a slightly cushioned strap to give a more robust look without having the watch fall to one side due to its dial weight

·

I really like the look of a Squale 1521 on leather.

And how on Earth would it carry my handbag?

I didn't used to like it but Spinnaker changed my mind. Most Spinnaker watches come on a leather strap from the factory and they look fantastic 😁

And how on Earth would it carry my handbag?

It wouldn't be able to afford to go out after having to buy 2 pairs of Doc Martens.

·

I own quite a few divers but try to keep either a metal bracelet or OEM rubber straps on them more for practical reasons than thinking a nice leather strap would be inappropriate. Sometimes it is just better to not have to remove a timepiece to wash your hands or prepare a fast lunch. There are no benefits to submerging a quality leather strap into water.

If you do "Kodiak Leather" then you can also dive with it.

Just google "Kodiak Waterproof Leather Watch Straps" and you can see a lot of options. Here is one that came up for me:
