Here's a Rolex I like !

That's just my taste, not better than anyone else, but I ask ... why, who, when, what the hell happened ?

I totally agree with you. That is a beautiful watch, their modern stuff leaves me cold.

·

That's lovely.

Not a fan of the sub, which most of their current stuff seems to be based on.

Shame they didn't stick to being fine watchmakers rather than becoming an advertising company 🙄😅😅

Perfection

·

This is a very nice Rolex indeed. 😊

·

💰 happened

But seriously, this is cl”a”ss 🤌

·

Not a fan of older stuff like this. Jusy too clutered a dial. I'll take a new offering over this. Just to present the other side.

But if it is your taste, that is fine. If we all liked the same things, life would be pretty boring.

They picked a consistent design langauage of the many that they pioneered and iterated on it. That’s branding: over the past couple of decades, you see a Rolex, you know it’s a Rolex. If they had stuck with their old Oyster 2081 design for example — which Rolex used as the basis for the Panerai Radiomir and Luminor — people would still complain. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t 🤷‍♂️

Personally, I like the charm of vintage Rolex but love modern and neo-vintage Rolex, both of which share the same design language.

·

LOVE this! I'm not a modern-day Rolex guy at all. The strap also looks perfect with it.

Do you know it's age?

·

I agree that's beautiful. I guess when the marketing took over for the sub and the money was there, they followed the green. However, I do love a vintage GMT Pepsi Bezel that looks like it's been through decades of wear and tear.

·

This is a gorgeous piece. Has way more character than all the modern Rolex modelw combined.

Is there a brand that makes watches that look like this and don't cost a fortune?

·

Agreed.

That's beautiful.

·

Sales happened. In the end it’s a business

Trends also change. That said you should look into the 1908 line.

Vintage Rolexes are also fairly easy to acquire if you like that look

OMG. That’s definitely a Rolex I would want to own.

·

I am fully with you since I collected vintage Rolex and to a lessor extend Tudors as well. Recently I chatted with an older gent who was picking up a quartz Grand Seiko to retire his daily wear Rolex Datejust from the early 70s. Man is a collector, the Datejust was steel and white gold which I rarely see on oyster bracelets, watch was amazing unlike Datejusts even from the 80s. Perhaps it is just a less complicated less flashy design but the subtle differences were evident to me. I believe Rolex understands their customer base better than most brands offering what the market wants, very willing to pay for.

Beautiful

·

And that’s a Rolex I like too.

·

Apparantly this is also the Rolex I like.

·

I generally don’t like dials that busy, but in this case I’d make an exception! That is one excellent watch!

This is from 1947, and it's going to auction with a estimated price of 25- 50 k.

·

For that amount of money, I'd take this OVER any modern Rolex in that price range! Hands down. No hesitation.

·

Vintage Rolex are wonderful, this chronograph - absolute gem! Partially this is why I prefer modern Tudors over modern Rolex. 1016 is one of my favorites.

·

This might be one of the best I’ve seen from this brand

There are many vintage watches for sale, here's one I have, it's obviously not the same in so many levels, but also the value, cost me 700€.

100% agree

·

I also agree. That is class.

·

Good question. Looks like it's from a better, parallel universe.

·

Gorgeous! 😍 They don't make it like they used to (at least aesthetically) .

Agreed, it has a real old world elegance.
