I’m so used to not having a lot of money for toys, I’m surprised that two of my watches are in the “basic luxury” tier. Of course, one was a gift (my late grandfather’s ’55 Longines) and the other cost around $500 used (Junghans).
This 1940s 31mm Timor was supposedly designed for and marketed to USAF personnel during WWII as an upgrade from what the military supplied, and I’m told it was especially popular with US Army Air Corps personnel, ie: the guys who transferred strategic supplies to bases around the world. If THOSE “real men" thought 31mm was too dainty, they wouldn’t have worn it! (FWIW, my wrist is 7”.)
