Tudor Ranger: Field Tested and Approved

I have been in "the field" with my Army unit for the last two weeks wearing nothing but my Tudor Ranger. After an initial disappointment with the Ranger when my watch stopped working right after purchase and I had to wait almost 5 months for a "repair" (movement swap), I finally have the watch I thought I was getting when I originally made the purchase. The time keeping has been great, losing less than a minute over the entire 2 week period. Visibility during daylight hours is awesome. I wish the lume were a bit better at night, but I have been able to read the time whenever I get woken up no matter how late into the night it is. We have been in a dusty environment, so I appreciate the screw down crown to protect the movement. I have this watch on a Haveston canvas strap, and I think it fits the watch and the field perfectly. It also goes with my Army uniform as does the "Ranger" name on the dial (reflecting the prestigious Army Rangers who belong to my branch of the service). I bought this watch on the bracelet because it was all the AD had, but I don't think it will ever come off a strap. I wear this watch whenever I am in uniform and it is a perfect pairing. Final conclusion: the Ranger has passed an extended field test with flying colors.

Awesome. I love this watch

I have the same combo. Looks great with the uniform. Do most people wear some form of Casio or is that a myth?

I would say that most Soldiers don't wear a watch at all anymore. For those that do, G-Shock is fairly common (amongst male Soldiers anyway) as well as smart watches and fitness trackers. Of course, in some places and scenarios, all devices with GPS are prohibited for security reasons so smart watches and fitness trackers are prohibited. In scenarios where they are not prohibited, smart devices and watches are the most common.

I have never seen another Soldier wearing a field watch (Hamilton, etc). There is history behind the field watch in the military, but it is not today's reality. Today's Soldier is far more likely to be wearing an Apple watch than a Hamilton khaki field. I am the odd one for wearing a field watch in uniform.

And that makes sense when you think about it, it's the most practical tool for the job. But that's not what this crazy hobby is really about.

Really like that.

Looks great, and I’m happy that they sorted out the movement for you. Thanks so much for your service!

A great watch. I have one and I'm glad is passes the actual field test!

Also interesting to get an up to date perspective from a serving soldier. Thank you!

This review made me want the watch more than I ever have previously. Tudor should send you a monthly commission check.
