Anyone ever sell a watch because of a life expense or a revelation?

Have anyone here sold a watch due to an unexpected life expense? Such as leaky roof, new car parts, kids braces etc. Even if it was a piece you absolutely loved. Did it make you reconsider your collection such as, “I have too many of these expensive ones that don’t get worn. I should condense my collection and reinvest that money into something more productive” ?

This is something that I know happens but never asked anyone about. You see posts of people selling all the time on the forums and Reddit saying this stuff.

I’d gladly sell one of my watches if I had to. But i’d sell my car first because cars are a big waste of money. Watches are so much easier and give so much back.

Unless you live in W. TX and have a 150 mile, one way, morning commute 😲🤏🏻😅. (Some oilfield guys go from Abilene, TX, to Midland, TX, to Hobbs, NM, and back...in a day!

I've never sold a watch to cover expenses, but I did come to the realization that very expensive watches were a waste of money for me.

I get as much enjoyment out of my new $200 CAD Vaer S3 as I get out of my $2000 Marathon GSAR. Spending $5K or more on a watch isn't going to make me happier, but it will mean I have less free money for other things in life, like vacations and other hobbies.

No. With proper planning, this is avoidable

Yep.

My daughter was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour.

Sold a number of watches (and a classic car and motorcycle) to pay for an experimental treatment in Europe.

Easiest decision I've ever made. Changed the way I buy watches though - I spend less on them. They're just not that important.

... I'm not so self satisfied to believe I'm smarter than nature and can forsee every eventuality. ^^

No, I’ve been fortunate in that I have been able to cover what life has thrown at me so far without needing to sell my watches to pay for it. If circumstances should change, then, yeah, I would sell off whatever I need to make ends meet.

Yes. I had a very expensive January this year, so I sold a few of my more expensive watches, and bought a few cheaper ones. However, in February I sold a few of my cheaper watches and bought more expensive ones. I don't learn, do I ?

Luckily never been in that position but if would be I would sell them all in a heartbeat. Memories are great but priorities are clear, first essentials and later everything else.

It’s a sucky situation to go through that’s why I’m not big about owning a high value watch because it’s alway on back in your head. What if? We living on these rough times that we just don’t never know.
