Contrivance

I get it, we are all trying to make something out of nothing, that’s social media content… but let’s keep it real shall we.

That’s your Swiss market share in terms of revenue. That’s your Top 10, and the percentage of the “groups” and how they compare. Swiss though… don’t go looking for Seiko in here, they’re not Swiss…

This is quantifiable. You can measure this (they’ve done it for you). Facts and figures. Don’t know who is part of what - Google it. Morgan Stanley do a bang-up job every year, perhaps do yourselves a favour and actually give the results a scan. You might learn something.

Don’t make stuff up.

If a brand is in the Top 10 they are hardly irrelevant. If their turnover is double someone else’s they don’t need to compete with them, they are already competing, and to a certain extent, “winning”. This is what it is all about at the end of the day: money. These are businesses, they don’t give a f*ck about you and your opinions.

Subjective imaginary luxury hierarchies be damned - Rolex turns over the most, 3x more the next in line, and more than the rest of the Top 6 combined. You might not like it, but it’s a fact. I couldn’t give a flying f*ck whether you think they are luxury or not, this is the status quo. Rolex and Tudor make up nearly a third of the (Swiss “luxury”) market, but Rolex is the largest percentage of that… by a long, long way. Tudor is not the new Rolex. Rolex alone account for 29%.

Longines sell more than Rolex in terms of units but the price is lower - boo hoo, but it works for them, and it is reflected in their standing in the market. Don’t pretend to think you know what Swatch Group’s plans for the brand are, you don’t know, and don’t make stuff up for clicks.

Alternative truths are not facts, they are b*llsh*t, and this place, quite frankly, stinks of it.

Post your pictures, ask what to buy, and stop making sh*t up.

It’s Top 10 season now anyway as we approach Christmas, can’t wait to see the same content repackaged ten ways till Sunday. Count down the days till you can bore your extended family over the holiday over what constitutes a “true” microbrand rather than any other microbrand you don’t like that day because you missed out on a limited edition as you were too busy trying to take the best picture of your collection all evening.

Enjoy your content… you deserve it.

Merry Christmas

What the hell did I miss?

Forgive what may be a dumb question, but I can’t find the answer despite trying ever since you used the term in an earlier post: How is “turnover” defined? I understand market share and revenue, but simply can’t figure out what “turnover” is telling me.

Yeah, is that like turnaround?

Also, I didn't mean to offend the OP with all those previous posts. Well, most of the previous posts.

Daaaaaaaaaaaamm.

gets the popcorn

Damn it, now I'm angry too! (Can someone tell me why we are angry?)

·

TIL Breitling moves more units than IWC

And I wonder where Seiko would sit on these charts just for fun...

·

I feel like Hamilton is positioning to be the next Rolex. They have stepped up their game lately with releases like the Khaki Field Expedition, and the prices have been creeping up...

My wife and I are still celebrating the birth of our first grand daughter in early October, I bought her a lovely Baume & Mercier Moonphase watch that she might be able to appreciate in 15-18 years, I don’t expect to be around to educate her on the complications of the watch, come to think about it B&M might not survive another decade or more. I am thinking seriously about buying a few more Breitling watches, the lists are totally irrelevant to me! I am certain the watch brands that I support do not lose sleep when I am having a bad year or even a bad decade or two.

On another note, what if one doesn't give a wet fart about any of the brands listed? 🤏🏻🤔😉😆🤣

I mean sure, the Pelagos, especially the FXD is sweet, but daddy wants a Q Jumbo Shrimp, so Tactical Frog here I come....bwahahahaha 😝🥸

this

stuff like this

So, have you read this? https://www.watchpro.com/baume-merciers-bounce/

Throwaway comment or not, they are still part of the Richemont portfolio, and still making money for them. In a sh*t year (2021) for them they did 62m CHF and were 38th above other “terrible” brands like Oris, GO, Zenith, B&R… shall we call time on those as well? Someone will read that and spout it wholesale, in an attempt at some hot take. We’ve had a dip for COVID, the watch market is growing again; unless these portfolios chop off large chunks, these are the “luxury” brands that are hanging around. Richemont’s 2022 annual report is available online, it outlines their plans for the brand.

Why did you say that? Why? What are you trying to say? Is your crystal ball working overtime?

It’s got nothing to do with movement, or the timepiece, or your favourites… you literally said that B&M will not last the decade, and you are basing that on what exactly? Feels?

You could probably make up stuff about the brands responsible for said models a lot easier… have at it, it will be taken wholesale.

Every time I visit my multi brand ad I check out the B&M display because I love the classic designs recalls my first serious watches, my ad a serious young man second generation seller sort of jokes that nobody buys the brand anymore. A shame because they are fine watches. I am not trying to predict the future.

Got to take that with a pinch of salt - what else do they carry? It’s relative. They shifted ~80,000 units in 2021, that’s a lot of no one…

I could argue no one buys Mido or Ulysse Nardin, but just because I don’t see them on my travels doesn’t mean I can just say that without recourse. I’m also wrong, because they shift units and have a turnover in the millions, the evidence is there. Opinions are dangerous things in the wrong hands.

Nah, I'll just stick to my affordable and/or microbrand realm, leave the luxury space for those that want it....

TBH, prolly better that way, since any AD, and some in here would be aghast at what id wear it through 😂! 🤏🏻🤘🏻🤙🏻

Yes everything is relative my ad sells almost every brand including Journe, Moser, Ferrier of course Grand Seiko, Zenith etc etc. They are a family owned operation with 2 locations. Listen I have always respected B&M but how often is the brand mentioned here on WC or videos on YouTube? The single brand Giorgio’s family do not retail is Rolex due to their proximity to another ad that is a longtime Rolex seller. Additionally I am not debating the statistics just that they are not relevant to how I spend my dollars on watches.

But that is also not what I’m taking about either - it’s a free market.

You repeated another’s opinion wholesale without considering the whole, that’s dangerous, and very common on here.

If I start spouting on about how Longines are to now compete with Tudor, you’d be surprised how many people swallow that wholesale. It’s also a complete fallacy. Longines have a larger turnover than Tudor, and no one other than the Swatch Group board can predict and dictate what the brand will do, or what you could glean from the Group’s Annual Report (spoiler alert: proposed direct competition with Tudor wasn’t in there).

Facts and reality vs feels and perceived hierarchy. Not healthy.

I'm sorry solid, but I have to call you out on this one, and there's photographic evidence on this site to prove it. You do indeed have a luxury watch. I saw the picture of the tag. You know what I'm saying. It's your $1675 Invicta.

Dammit!!!! I can’t believe I didn’t check the Swiss market share, revenue and turnover stats before I made my last major watch purchase. How else am I supposed to know if I bought a watch that I like???

Rookie mistake 😂

It shouldn’t matter for your purchases, but if you want to tell us what you think Longines or Tudor should do, it might be worth having a gander…

I hate it that you didn't have the stats. But don't worry. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find somebody who will tell you if you like your watch or not.

So, anyhoo, my Top 10 dive watches of the Year are…..

I’ll do dress watches in a few days….😉

Another great post.
