Introducing myself

Hello everyone. I am from Ontario, Canada.

I have been a watch lover my entire adult life.

I collect watches for various reasons. Sentimental value, originality, design, technology, culture, fashion, investment, practicality, vibe, etc.

My collection is eclectic. Some cost more and some less. Some cheap. I appreciate them all the same.

I also see watches as men's jewellery. I wear different watches and different bands on different occasions and wearing different clothes.

Here are some of them.

I think the fact that you own a AP Royal Oak and a Pagani design is about the most based thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

welcome. not looking to start anything here…but that AP…it looks…weird. it’s a replica, isnt it? i thought all Royal Oaks have their bolts in the bezel parallel to the sides, not askew in all different angles.

if i’m wrong, please accept my apologies and educate me. i am, by no means, an expert on AP Royal Oaks.

All good. We are here to share our love and knowledge for watches.

I do not keep track of the evolution of Royal Oak, but it is real circa 1990. I am the original owner.

You can probably use google lens to look up all the info about this watch.

interesting. i have never come across a Royal Oak with bolt heads askew like that. it took some googling but i came across one photo of another vintage two tone RO with bolt heads askew like this (shown below, 25mm ref. 66270TR circa 1990). see the bolt at 8 o’clock seems misaligned. can i ask - what is the reference for this piece? learning something new here. thanks for sharing.

I believe it is 25572ST.

I have never paid attention to what you described. Many years ago it was sent to Switzerland for service (load AD could not do it). The askew bolts could have been a result of that.

·

yeah. i always thought the parallel bolts were core to Genta’s design of the watch. so to see it askew like that is jarring.

Thanks for pointing it out.

after doing a bit more research on it, it seems the bolts on the bezel of the Royal Oak have always been parallel to the bezel all the way around the dial. they are never misaligned. and to have it come back that way from an official service in Switzerland would be a major no no. those fasteners aren’t screws, they’re actually hexagonal bolts with the screws locking them in on the underside at the back of the watch. that’s why the screw heads on the back of the watch are all misaligned, while the bolts on the watch face should all be aligned. it was part of the original Genta design. you might want to take it up with the service center to get this fixed.

Now that you have mentioned it, I cannot un-see it.

Thanks again!
